Unclaimed Pets After Superstorm Sandy
I had previously saved a link to this video in my e-mail, intending to post it soon after it appeared on NBC News last January. At the time, 136 pets were in need of placement before the emergency shelter was closed. However, the e-mail somehow got buried and I just found it the other day, so I sent a note to the ASPCA in New York City to find out how they were doing on placing pets who had been abandoned or lost when Sandy hit the east coast.

Does Manhattan Hate Golden Retrievers?
I just returned from a vacation in Manhattan. We saw all kinds of dogs out being walked. I was kind of surprised because I don’t think of NYC as a dog city. I guess you see so many people out walking their dogs because you can’t let your dogs out in a back yard you don’t have.
Anyways, in all of our travels – believe me, we walked up and down the whole island – we didn’t see even one golden retriever. We saw boxers, pugs, dachshunds, and tons of mutts. So, is there something New Yorkers don’t like about Goldens? If you live, or have lived there, let me know what the story is!

Street sweeper gets carried away

The city’s sanitation department calls it a “rare and unfortunate accident”. That’s the understatement of the year!
