A few missed practice jumps. Am I a bad person for thinking these are funny? I love the looks on the dogs’ faces as they fall short of the target.
Come back tomorrow to see what’s supposed to happen.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Another dog and handler whose names I didn’t catch. You’ll see the dog miss a few of the obstacles, but have a great deal of fun, nonetheless. That’s what I love about agility. The dogs – and the handlers – have a blast, regardless of technical performance.
As I get ready to pack my bags and leave Florida, I have a few parting thoughts. First of all, what an awesome show! I can’t even imagine the amount of planning and organization that went into this. Kudos to the American Kennel Club, their employees, volunteers, and all those involved in putting this incredible and overwhelmingly huge, complex show together.
Next, congratulations to all of the breeders, owners, and handlers. I saw nothing but exemplary dogs here. Whether you competed in conformation, diving dogs, agility, or obedience, I was impressed by all of you.
If you want to see what I saw, tune into the Hallmark Channel on 23 January 2017 for a “best of” three hour show. I’m not sure of the starting time, but I’ll let you know. Better yet, make plans now to come to next year’s show, scheduled for December 16th and 17th back here in beautiful Orlando, Florida. It will be well worth your time.
As far as what is coming up on the blog, you can expect to see my Meet the Breed photos starting at 6:00 tomorrow morning. Then check back frequently to see the obedience, agility, and diving dog videos I’ll be posting throughout the rest of the week.
Finally, thanks so much to doggies.com for sending me to see this fabulous event in person!
So long from sunny Orlando!

Today is the official opening of the 2016 AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin. No, I’m not there yet, but there are preliminary events going on today through Friday. Starting on Saturday, the conformation show will include 209 total breeds plus a Junior Showmanship competition. Continue reading Tuesday Top Ten: Dog Breeds to be Shown at the AKC National Championships
The huge dog show known as the AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin is coming up this weekend (December 17 – 18) in Orlando, Florida. The event actually runs all of this week with lots of preliminary rounds and exhibitors starting on December 13th. Yes, there is a conformation show, including 209 different breeds, as well as a Junior Handling Competition. I’ll bring you more information on those tomorrow. But what I want to talk about today is the stuff that goes on outside of the all-breed show rings. Continue reading 2016 National Championships By The Numbers
I mentioned last week that I really wanted to go to the AKC National Championships in Florida on December 17th and 18th, but didn’t think I could swing it financially.
Turns out, I have a Secret Santa who offered to pay for the whole trip if I would blog about it while I’m there!
That’s a deal I just couldn’t turn down, so pay attention next weekend for coverage of agility, obedience, diving dogs, and of course, the all-breed dog show.
I couldn’t be happier! Thanks, Santa! (Yes, Virginia, he really does exist.)
