Meet Katherine Hepburn. Here’s what she wrote on Chocolate Chip Dalmation Assistance League’s website.
Hello, I am Katie and I am a pretty, petite, female, 1-2 year old Dalmatian mix that was pulled from a local animal shelter in Maryland. I was very happy to go home with my foster mom and run around in her big yard! I am told that I can be very charming especially when I cock my head and put my ears up.
I am also playful, curious, and energetic. Every day is like a new adventure with a yard to explore, birds to listen to and try to figure out where all the chirping is coming from, and squirrels to watch. I love to play, play, play and run around the yard with my two other foster brothers (Cary and Astro). I also understand the word “ball” and will go look for it and hopefully find it when you tell me to, but I am not going to give it back right away! I like to run around and play with it on my own.
I am very pretty when I sit and am working very hard to not jump up and understand down, but it is easy to forget when I get excited to see someone or smell something yummy in the kitchen! I also would love to come up and sit in your lap, but am undrstanding that I need to be invited or I have to stay on the floor. I am told I am a smart girl and am learning quickly.
At the end of a big day, I like to curl up in my crate and will burrow down for the night in my big, soft blanket. I sleep easily through the night and am ready to go the next day. I also snooze patiently in my crate while you are gone and ready to go when you come home with my tail wagging and wagging.
I am spayed, housebroken, up to date on shots, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. I also have no health problems and love playing with other dogs. A buddy would be wonderful! I would benefit from continued obedience training and clear, consistent direction. If you think I am right for you, please fill out an adoption application.
If you’re going to be in Maryland, contact Chocolate Chip Dalmation Assistance League by calling 301-434-1086 or e-mailing ccdal AT Comcast DOT net to set up a time to meet Katie and her friends. If you’re not near Maryland, check out PetFinder’s Shelter Center to find adoptable pets near you.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

You knew I couldn’t resist a Vizsla rescue. I have never understood why someone would give up such a beautiful dog. Here’s the web site for Utah/Idaho Vizsla Rescue where you can see tons of pictures of our featured dog this week.

I’d like to start a feature on the first of every month, listing events and fundraisers going on at various local shelters for the month. Kind of a community calendar, if you will.
Here’s what I have for September.
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue of Washington, DC is having a wine and cheese adoption event on Saturday, September 4th from 5 – 7 pm at the Old City Green (right by Wagtime across from the DC Convention Center).
Basset Rescue Network at Daphneyland in Los Angeles is having a Waddle at the Santa Monica Pier on September 19th. Bring your favorite hound to the pier and learn the basset waddle!
Adopt-A-Dog Inc. of Armonk, CT is having their 23rd annual dog show and festival called Puttin’ On the Dog on September 25th (rain date is the 26th) at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich from 10 – 5.
If you know of any shelter goings-on, please let me know no later than the 25th of the preceding month so I can include them here.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Meet Molly! According to Homeward Bound’s web site:
Molly somehow ended up at Gilmer County Animal Control pregnant and on borrowed time. Her days were running out and she was about ready to pop! We saved Ms. Molly from animal control on 5/7/10 and on 5/9/10 she gave birth to 9 happy healthy babies at her foster home. Ms. Molly is now ready for adoption and she needs her own home where she can get some loving! Molly was a good mom. Molly is pretty much fully housebroken. She is protective and has the typical hound dog howl and bark. She gets along well with other dogs but will sometimes growl or bark at them but is not aggressive with them. We are guessing that Molly is a Red Tick Coonhound mix. She is about 56 pounds and has beautiful red ticking. Molly is an older girl probably 5 years old. She is spayed, current on vaccines, dewormed and heartworm negative. She has been started on heartworm and flea preventative. Her adoption fee is $175.00. If you are interested in adopting Molly please complete an online Adoption Form. This dog is microchipped with a Home Again microchip.
Homeward Bound’s goal is to reduce the number of stray cats and dogs in their community through education programs, referral lists for neighboring shelters and rescue groups, and by offering cost-effective spay/neuter programs for those in need of financial assistance. Since August 29, 2000, they have rescued and adopted out 3,501 animals!
If you’ll be in Georgia soon, why not call Homeward Bound at (706) 698-HOME to set up a time to meet Molly and her friends.
If you’re somewhere else, check out local animals available for adoption at PetFinder’s Shelter Center.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
