The event, hosted by the AKC and the United States Police Canine Association, brings the best of the best in narcotics and explosives detection dogs from around the nation together to demonstrate the important role dogs play in law enforcement and keeping our country safe. AKC Reunite Adopt a K-9 Cop Program Makes $75,000 in Donations in Minnesota

From The Dog Lady’s mailbag: AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States, is pleased to announce $75,000 in donations to K-9 units at eight police departments in Minnesota through its AKC Reunite Adopt a K-9 Cop matching grant program. Funds were raised by contributions from the United States Police Canine Association and community members, with AKC Reunite matching donations at a three-to-one ratio. From The Dog Lady’s mailbag: The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Police Canine Association is the newest organization associated with the AKC. The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) is the largest and oldest police dog certification organization in the United States.

“AKC is honored to collaborate with the USPCA,’’ said AKC President and CEO Dennis B. Sprung. “They protect our citizens, strive to educate the public on many important dog-related topics, and are an integral part of communities. RIP K-9 Aches

From the Police K-9 Association here in Ohio: It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our own K-9 ACHES. [long A: A-keys]

Recently, Aches (4.5 years old) had fallen ill. After dedicated care at home, and travel to Columbus for expert advice, it was determined that he had an inoperable tumor on his spine.

Aches was one of the rare and special K-9s in that he was 100% work; however, when he was at home he was 100% a family dog. He leaves behind his dedicated partner, best friend, and Dad, Investigator McGilton, as well as his loving momma and his human sister. Continue reading RIP K-9 Aches
