Recently, Aches (4.5 years old) had fallen ill. After dedicated care at home, and travel to Columbus for expert advice, it was determined that he had an inoperable tumor on his spine.
Aches was one of the rare and special K-9s in that he was 100% work; however, when he was at home he was 100% a family dog. He leaves behind his dedicated partner, best friend, and Dad, Investigator McGilton, as well as his loving momma and his human sister. Continue reading RIP K-9 Aches→
The Boone County, MO Sheriffs Department sadly announced late last week that K-9 Baron had died during a training exercise. The German Shepherd had faithfully served the department since 2012. He was 8.5 years old.
Rest easy, Baron. Others will take the watch from here. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
On the left, Long Beach police K-9 Credo in a training photo posted to the police department’s Facebook page in 2014. The LBPD tweeted a photo of the 4-year-old Belgian Malinois with his handler, Officer Mike Parcells. Photo credit: Long Beach Police Department NBC in Los Angeles is reporting that Police K9 Credo was killed during a standoff in Long Beach California on Tuesday, police said. The standoff involved a man wanted in connection with a deadly weapons case.
Credo was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where his death was confirmed.
Pictures from the scene include Credo laid out on the ground and being carried to the squad car. I couldn’t bear to post them. Credo does not appear to be wearing a vest, but I’m not sure whether one would have helped him or not because the article doesn’t say where he was shot.
Rest well, Credo. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
BeamerReader Alan Karch shared this beautiful piece with me. He wrote it to his wife after their wonderful dog, Beamer, died. It was so moving, I got permission to publish it so all of you can read it. I think it perfectly captures the joy of having a dog in the family, as well as the heartache when they cross the rainbow bridge. Continue reading An Ode to Beamer’s Mom→
