This exhibition takes a closer look at the top ten breeds, examines their histories, and speculates what exactly about them captures the hearts and minds of so many Americans.
The in-person exhibit at the AKC Museum of the Dog in NYC runs from May 6th to August 31st; I’m assuming the virtual tour is the same.
Last Tuesday, the AKC released their list of the most registered purebreds in 2016, also known as the most popular breeds. ICYMI, the top ten dogs from last year were:

8. Rottweiler
7. Poodle
6. French Bulldog

1. Labrador Retriever
This is the first of several posts I will do this week as we prepare for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on February 14 and 15. I’m going out on a limb to tell you my picks for best of group in each of the breed groups. (Gulp!) I can’t say I know enough about dog shows for these to be anything other than wild guesses, based loosely on information readily available on the web.
Yesterday, we published the list of the top ten breeds registered with the AKC in 2010. The breeds included in the top ten did not change, although a few changed places (Beagle/Golden Retriever, and (Boxer/Bulldog). Here are a few more trends noted by the AKC.
