For many of us, it would be a dream job: caring for animals all day long. However, what we don’t often see are the long hours, the stress of dealing with sick animals – and their families, and the heavy school debt load. Combine these negatives with easy access to lethal medications, and you see an alarming suicide rate among veterinarians.
Huge shout-out to those who have dedicated their lives to making life better for our furry (and feathered and scaly) friends. Especially those of you committed to keeping your prices low or offering low-cost spay/neuter clinics to those of us who have more animals than money or sense! (Says the lady with five cats, a dog, and heading out this afternoon to pick up three orphan kittens for bottle-feeding.)
PS – Animal Planet is running marathons of all of their vet shows today, if you’re a fan like I am!
I am in love with the vet shows on Animal Planet. My typical Saturday involves watching the reruns all day, then catching the original episodes at night.
I know they show some non-pet related stuff, too, like River Monsters, North Woods Law, and Treehouse Masters (which I can’t figure out how that relates to animals), but my favorites are the ones that show vets. How about you?
I normally try not to get toooo serious on here, but today is a very special day. I want to say thank you and happy veteran’s day to Dr. Allen and his wonderful staff, and to all the other vets out there that keep our dogs and cats safe.
If you’ve been watching the Olympics (at least on NBC), you’ve likely seen the commercials for the new upcoming NBC comedy called Animal Practice. I think it looks like it will be pretty funny. Check out their official website.
It premieres September 26th. Let us know what you think!
