Dog’s Indoor Potty Patch = Identity Theft Scam????

After my last post on the dog’s indoor potty patch, I received numerous comments about people submitting their credit card information, but never receiving their product.  This makes you wonder why the company is collecting credit card info and whether or not it is a scam. 

As you know, I have tried to get a response from the company, as well as from Animal Planet, where their ads run.  However, no luck so far.  My next recommendation is that anyone who submitted information to try to buy an Indoor Potty Patch should fill out an identity theft complaint form through the Federal Trade Commission’s web site – let’s see if that gets any response.

  2. Wow, I am so glad that I found this page. Yes, the ordering process was terribly confusing. When I finally looked up the order, I found that I had somehow ordered the large size and was being charged over $80 with shipping and handling. Also, that it would not be arriving until November 8th.
    I called to cancel the order today and talked to someone named “Eric” . In the process of cancelling the order, he offered free shipping, a regular size with free shipping. Finally, when we were finished cancelling the order, I asked for a cancellation confirmation number of which they had none. But he did say that my credit card had not been charged. I will be sure to check the next statement. Thanks all, for the heads-up!

  3. Yes, I have also just been SCAMMED….and I did just submit my BBB complaint….and STRONGLY ADVISE ALL OF YOU TO DO THE SAME NOW!!! Together we are strong in our stand against this JOKE of a business!!!

    This company sells a product called the “Potty Patch”…an indoor grass patch bathroom for dogs. I placed my initial order on 9/28/09 via phone. I gave my visa card number and was told to expect my item delivered on 10/11/09. Then, I called today to check the status of my order…and I was told the item is now back ordered 2-6 weeks. I said CANCEL this order…and then all of a sudden POOF my item “has just been shipped today” and my credit card was charged $43.93!! I told them to CANCEL – and then they charge my card anyways!!!

  4. I haven’t seen this item advertised much lately so thought something might be up, and found this site. I’m glad I didn’t bother with it. Too bad, it sounds like a neat product.

    To people like Douglas who are looking for alternatives, try Pooch Pads. I got mine at Pet Smart but some online stores like dog.com have. Not cheap — I paid $20 something for 1. But, they WORK. They are very thin, not bulky at all. They are odor-proof as their package states. Truly absorbent. Mine said it can be washed up to 300 times. They wash easily in the washing machine and dry on a 7-minute cycle on a commercial dryer. Sometimes I just hang it outside and it dries quickly. I’m completely satisfied and my dogs took to it right away. The package states the pad contain a chemical “attractant.” If you have more than one dog, buy more than one pad. I found my 2 dogs do not like to “share” it.

    And it’s not ugly — mine is light beige. Never once has anything ever gone through the pad onto my carpet or floor.

    I also like Stephanie’s creation of using a wading pool with mulch. I’ve thought of putting a large litter box in my house with mulch and see if they’ll use it. They certainly get into mulch when they find it outside.

  5. I AM FURIOUS! MY ORDER WAS PLACED AUGUST 31, 2009. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO ASK ABOUT THE EXPECTED ARRIVAL DATE. MY DEBIT CARD WAS CHARGED SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 FOR THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE POTTY PATCH PURCHASE. I SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE SEPTEMBER 25, 2009, THE LADY TOLD ME IT “SHOULD” BE SHIPPED WITHIN TWO WEEKS, BUT THAT THERE WAS NO FORSEEABLE DATE IN WHICH THEY WOULD BE RECEIVING THE POTTY PATCH’S TO SHIP. SHE SAID THEY WERE VERY BACKED UP AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO TELL WHEN THEY WOULD COME IN FOR SHIPMENT. THAT BEING SAID. I CHECK MY ACCOUNT THIS MORNING, SEPTEMBER 28, 2009, AND MY CARD HAS BEEN CHARGED AGAIN, AND NOW MY BANK ACCOUNT HAS OVER DRAFTED. I HAVE ONLINE BILLS PENDING TO BE PAID, THAT NOW WILL NOT GO THROUGH BECAUSE POTTY PATCH HAS OVER CHARGED ME. I CALLED TO CANCEL MY ORDER BECAUSE OF THE OVER CHARGE. I THEN CALLED BACK IMMEDIATELY, I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER MALE, HE INFORMED ME THAT “ALL THE SUDDEN” MY POTTY PATCHES HAD BEEN SENT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009, AND THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT IT. WHY ALL THE SUDDEN DID I CANCEL, AND NOW THEY WERE ALREADY SHIPPED?   6. Unfortunately, like most of you, I have also been duped by this company. I ordered the potty patched based on the TV ads running on the Animal Planet back in July. I did see a pending charge on my account for the 3 potty patches I ordered but the hard charge did not post at that time. By the end of August I had e-mailed and called them several times because the expected delivery date changed constantly…at times it even changed several times in the same day! The response was always the same:

    Due to the high demand for this product…blah, blah, blah…items on back order will be shipped as quickly as possible…blah, blah, blah…your credit card will not be charged until the order is shipped.

    After several months of this run-around, I did a little investigating (which I probably should have done before ordering) and found this and a few other sites hosting postings from other folks who have had similar experiences so I decided to cancel my order. So, here’s what happened next:

    On the morning of Friday, Sept 19th I checked the order status website and the items were still showing to be on back order and the expected delivery date was now pushed out to mid-October. I immediately sent an e-mail to customer service advising them to cancel my order. Now, typically it would take a minimum of two attempts to get a response to any other questions I sent them but lo-and-behold a cancellation request got me a same day response from them…just about 7 hours later! Exactly like the person who earlier described their experience with a cancllation request I got the following response:

    Thank you for contacting customer service. Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your order since it is being processed for shipment. Your order will be shipping out of our warehouse in the next couple business days and once the product ships please allow 7-14 business days for delivery. If you no longer wish to keep the order once you receive it please follow the return instructions below:

    Please return by Insured Parcel Post or UPS, whichever is more convenient and send to:

    Now, I am no statistician but just doing the simple math…about a month for me to actually receive these items, another few weeks for the shipping return and another month for the refund to show on my account means they will have my money in their pocket for approximately 3 months. I checked my acount and sure enough the pending charge is back and suddenly the order status is showing “in process”.

    I have personally contacted my bank and asked them to reject the charge as this item has been cancelled and I suggest you all try to do the same.

IT PAYS TO READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE ORDERING ANTHING ONLINE. I’M LEARNING. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT IN THE FUTURE.

  10. I really want to litter box train my new Yorkie baby girl. Did not want to order from Potty Patch due to people being ripped off. I spoke with the owner of the Rascal Dog Litter Box company and told her my concerns about ordering a box from any company due to all the negative reports on Potty Patch. She assured me that my box would be shipped today. She e-mailed me my ups tracking code number just as she had promised when I placed the order. I checked it out – my litter box is on its way. I paid a litle more, but at least I know that I wasn’t a victim of the poyty patch scam.

  11. I just cancelled my order I placed back in JUNE!! I have received 2 back order statements and after talking with the customer service @866.518.2294 and asking why it has been back order now 3 times there was not a good response. I am not sure if this is a viable company or not but I can not believe if a product is that popular they can NOT give a valid delivery date!!!

I have a dachshund that I have been unable to train to do pee only outside, when I saw the add I was tempted to order it, but thanks for your site to call attention to their poor service I didn’t. Does anyone knows about any other product that would work more or less the same. How buying your own sod will work?

  14. I ORDERED TWO POTTY PATCHS WHICH COST ME OVER $100, JULY 11, AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PRODUCT. ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO I CALLED TO SEE WHEN I SHOULD BE EXPECTING MY ORDER. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS SUCH A HIGH DEMAND FOR THIS PRODUCT THAT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER. THAT I SHOULD BE EXPECTING IT SOMETIME IN SEPTEMBER.     If thats not a scam Idk what is…..

    Crazy. I really wanted to order one for my min. weiner dog that has an injured leg, and doesn’t get around well. Its a shame.

  19. I called the Potty Patch Customer Service number I found listed on this blog (1-866-518-2294) and was surprized to find a human being answering on the other end. I told him I wanted Delivery Information on my 3 week old order. He asked for my name and zip code and supposedly looked up my file and told me my order was due to ship in about a week.

    They have not yet charged my credit card …. I’m still hopeful it will be shipped soon. But I’ll let you all know what happens.

    Does anyone know of a reliable supplier of this item in case it does not coome?

  21. Glad I did a search on reviews for the potty patch. This should get posted on consumerist.com and see if the publicity doesn’t get some action. I have a Chihuahua who sometimes can’t hold her bladder while I am at work. I also have 2 indoor cats who are litter box trained. Does anyone know if they would start using the dog’s litter box? Any ideas on a similar set up as the potty patch that would fit in a small walk in closet? Thanks in advance.

  22. Our 12-year old Japanese Chin, A.D., has congestive hear failure and is on a duiretic, so cannot hold her bladder as long as she could previously. We purchased a medium-sized rigid plastic wading pool from Walmart ($15), drilled holes in the bottom, and filled it to within 2 inches of the top with natural cypress mulch (no color or additives). We put it on our deck and she’s used it from the first day we had it. The urine is absorbed completely and we clean out the solids immediately. We are going to try the same thing in our Florida condo on the screened porch, minus the holes, which hopefully will work as well.

  26. I’ve written to PottyPatch and copied the BBB. I was totally apalled at their website ordering procedure. It takes you from page to page asking if you want to order additional items but never give you a price until you get to the end and you are presented with an order with all these charges but unable to revise or edit your purchase. You click on customer service which is so rediculous it takes you in loops that take you nowhere. I ended up calling the 866 number and just cancelled my order out of frustration. By the way, these items are on back order and my order wasn’t going to be shipped until Aug 23rd. What a sham!

  27. I am so glad that I found this Blog before I ordered the Potty Patch! I was eady to order this and decided to do a little hmework first. Glad I did!
    I really want to litter box train my Yorkie puppy, but I was now leary to order a litter box product off the web after reading everyone’s experience with the Potty Patch.
    Yesterday, I called several sites that were advertising litter boxes on the internet. One of the companies that I called was the Rascal Dog Litter Box. I spoke with the owner of the company and she assured me that my litter box would be shipped the day that I placed by order if it was by 3:00 pm Florida time. I took a chance and I did place an order.
    They sent me a confirmation e mail yesterday afternoon with my UPS Tracking Number. The owner could not have been nicer and she told me to call her if I had any training questions or any other concerns.
    I may have paid a little bit more (around $30) , but I know that I am getting a litter box for my puppy and I haven’t been ripped off!

  28. I ordered the potty patch over month ago. When I did not receive it after a month, I called customer service. They claim the product is on back order and will come in around 2 weeks. So, hopefully I will receive my product.

  29. Wow…I am so glad I decided to check out the link to this when I did a potty patch search. My dog is an older sweet girl, and is paper trained so now when she is not able to wait, she is using her papers. Due to special diet, her urine is strong. I thought this Potty Patch idea was going to be a life saver, and am so disappointed to hear all of this. I am going to keep checking to see if anything gets resolved. Does anybody know of anyone who has actually received the product?

  30. My partner wants to get a small dog. We live in a 2 bedroom condo and are not home 12 or more hours a day. When I saw the potty patch I thought maybe that’s the answer. Is anyone actually receiving the potty patch yet and does it work?

  35. I was thinking about ordering the puppy patch until I read here what has been going on with people not receiving the product. I was thinking of purchasing one of those credit cards like visa cards you pay for up front with only a $40 credit limit, then using that card to purchased, that way they don’t have my credit info and can’t charge me more than $40 atleast, would that work?

  38. I gave them my credit card info online on Monday and have since had 2 charges on my credit card for online purchases of video games. I have not given my card number to anyone else, nor have I ever ordered a video game in my entire life. I’m sure it’s them because of the timing of the purchase. Also, I was suspicious when they emailed me and told me that they rec’d my order but I couldn’t contact them for several days because they needed time to update their computer system. They also said if I did call that I would more than likely find that they wouldn’t have my info on file. I immediately became concerned and now realize that I made a BIG mistake!

  39. I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR THE POTTY PATCH. HE SAID HE HAD NOT READ ANY OF THE DODDIE BLOGS. I ASKED HIM WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.     I am truly upset that so many people haven’t gotten a response from a company that advertises on the Internet and on TV.
    I will certainly be contacting the BBB and urge others to do so. I truly hope that everyone gets their product or a refund. Heck, even a response would allay many fears about a possible scam.
