A dog’s indoor “potty patch”

UPDATE 10/15/2010: PLEASE READ AT LEAST SOME OF THE COMMENTS THIS POST HAS GENERATED BEFORE YOU MAKE A PURCHASE DECISION.
Has anyone tried this product? I got an ad in my e-mail about it, and I’m trying to decide what I think of the Potty Patch.
According to the ad, this is the “perfect” solution for pets who must stay inside for long periods of time, or at least for longer than they can cross their legs.
The picture appears to be a swatch about the size of a carpet sample, made of three layers. The bottom layer is a tray that can hold up to a gallon of urine. The middle layer is basically a grate that allows the urine to travel from the top layer to the tray. The top layer looks (and feels?) like grass.
The idea is that your dog will feel comfortable peeing on the “grass” and will not make a mess on your floors.
My questions:
Do you have to train your dog to use it, like you would newspapers, or does he naturally gravitate to it?
How hard is it to clean all three layers to keep them from stinking?
Why is this any better than newspaper training?
If you have answers, please let me know.
Until next time,
The Dog Lady

I don’t think I’d want my dog to ever feel that it’s okay to potty inside.
Though, I would like something like this for my small fenced-in yard where there’s no grass. I want her to potty out there, but she prefers grass.
I don’t think I’d want my dog to feel that it was okay to potty inside at all.

Much better to get the training done correctly.
I think this would only be good if your Dog has real incontinence problems or other serious health issues.
I used a similar product (http://www.porchpotty.com) with my most recent litter of English Springer Spaniel puppies, and it worked like a charm. They gravitated to it naturally, and I heard from the new owners after the pups went to their permanent homes that they were extremely easy to housebreak, as they were already used to eliminating on grass. I used real sod in the one I have, so it was more like actual grass. I don’t know if there would be problems with older dogs wanting to go in the house, but the comparative ease of housebreaking for my pups makes me think it would be okay. The best thing about the product I used was that there’s a drain, so it could be set up to drain outdoors rather than having a container filled with urine.
I went to a home before Christmas for the first time and as the front door was opened all I could smell was strong urine. A potty training pad was at the front door for her 2 dogs to use and it was full. She stated that she did not let her dogs outside. In the course of conversation she stated that her son would not bring her granddaughter to visit her. I wonder why?
So, be fair to your pet and train it for outside!
I ordered potty patch sometime ago and as of yet have not received it. My id# is 9019032 please contact me re this order.
Louise Grabe: Unfortunately, I don’t have any way to contact the company to follow up on this for you. I checked their website & googled them, but they do not have a “contact us” page anywhere that I could see. I also checked with their website host, but couldn’t find so much as an 800 number. Sorry!
I also ordered this about the 7th of Jan and no confirmation, nothing. I have emailed them several times and no reply, i have also looked on the as seen on TV site as that is listed on the ad and they do not have this on their web site. I am begining to feel scammed!
Tanya – If you can provide me with the email address (send it to thedoglady@doggies.com), I will follow up with the company and let them know that we are going to call them out in a big, public way if they don’t respond. Thanks.!
I have also ordered the potty patch and have not received it. I did received a confirmation email, but NO WAY to call customer service and no direct email address (you have to email through the site). On the up side, my account hasn’t been charged yet either.
I also ordered the Potty Patch and have received nothing and have no way of contacting them. Help!!
Good news! I did a bit of research and found some contact information for this company. I don’t know that it will do any good, but let me bug them a bit & see if I can find out what’s going on. If I don’t get this resolved, I’ll post their address & we can flood them with mail until they get the message. (I’ll be nice as long as they are.)
Here’s what I sent. We’ll give them a couple of weeks to respond & see what happens.

Dear Mr. Greenstone,
I found your name and address as the registered owner of OfficialTVWebsite.com on the WhoIs directory. Hopefully, you are the correct person to whom I should be addressing this concern.
I am the blog writer for doggies.com and recently posted a story about the Indoor Potty Patch, which I thought was a rather interesting product. I asked my readers what they thought of the product, but was not prepared for the types of responses I received. I have had several readers comment that they had ordered the product but had yet to receive it. The good news is that their credit cards were not charged, but they are still disappointed in not having received what they ordered.
My hope is that your fulfillment system somehow got overloaded, and that these readers’ products are on their way. I would be very interested in getting your feedback as to what might have happened, and I promise to post your response on my blog at http://doggies.com/blog/2009/01/08/a-dogs-indoor-potty-patch/, where you may also read of the complaints I have received to date. If you care to do so, you may also post your responsive comments directly on the blog.
You may contact me via any of the means shown below. I look forward to hearing from you soonest. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Beth Philley

Add me to the list. I also ordered and no charge seen yet and also no potty patch. I ordered 2/6/09. I never received an email confirmation. My order # is 9965202. Is this a scam???Let me know if they are stealing identities and information, we need to report ASAP. Thanks.
Lisa
I too ordered the Potty Patch and have not received the product. What gives?
I also ordered 2 Potty Patches and received nothing since January 8, 2009. Then I noticed that there is no contact number or place. I decided that I was scammed. Unfortunately, they have my credit card number and I have nothing. What should we do next – report them for Fraud? Susan
I would not trust this product. I am not surprised no one received anything but money was taken. there is no website. This has to be a fraud. Also, in their tv ad which I guess that can afford because they’ve received money but havent’ had to send any potty patches, it says why spend money on dog walkers. That is ridiculous. Dogs are meant to get out and excercise. Potty patches or anything like it don’t take the place of that. Also, this stuff gets really stinky even if cleaned and is flat on the ground which doesn’t allow for accidents. All in all, I say this is a scam, false advertising and I think people should contact the Animal Planet since ads appear on that channel. Also can contact consumer affairs.
I saw the ad of TV for Potty Patch and immediately thought ‘this is just what my daughter needs for her indoor peeing and pooping chihuahua, UNTIL I read all the many bad news reports here. Thank you for blogging before I could lose money from my meager social security retirement income. If this turns out to not be a scam but merely an inability to keep up with orders, please let us know. Then and only then I will be delighted to order one for each of my kids and me for our pets. I am about to start fostering for the Human Society and ASPCA and this would be huge training aid.
Just to let you know, I have not forgotten about this issue. Having gotten no response from my note to the website owner’s address, today I sent a request to Animal Planet, as suggested by Natasha, to see if they could assist me in locating a person to contact. I’ll let you know what I find out. My next stop will be the Better Business Bureau, and possibly the FCC or some other government agency that might regulate trade on the Internet and via TV ads.
Am I glad that I looked for information before ordering. I was all set to place an order as it is a problem for my small dogs to go outside when it is raining or snowing for hours on end. Does anyone know of a similar product that has “good” reviews?? Would appreciate feedback.

I checked at the bottom of the pottypatch website and found a contact link. I was about to order one of these for my little dog Lu Lu until reading the possible problems others have had.I haven’t tried the toll free number listed on the contact page for pottypatch.com but here is the info. I hope this helps.

I too just ordered this product and THEN found this site. I called the customer service number above and got a business called Radient Financial Group who seem to be doing mortgage restructuring and refinance. I recalled the number and couldn’t get through. Got a message “all circuits are busy”, on a sunday morning! I will stop the payment on my credit card STAT. Thanks for reporting this site.
I came upon this website by accident when I was getting ready to order a potty patch. Thank goodness I did. You just saved me from giving my credit card no. THANK YOU!
Hello Dog Lady,
I did some further investigating concerning pottypatch’ and will email you my results.
Hopefully I have a good contact name and number, so please let me know. I will check back on this forum or my personal email in hopes that the info. is of any help.
I am truly upset that so many people haven’t gotten a response from a company that advertises on the Internet and on TV.
I will certainly be contacting the BBB and urge others to do so. I truly hope that everyone gets their product or a refund. Heck, even a response would allay many fears about a possible scam.
Thank you doggies.com for alerting me and I am sure many others about this problem.

As an alternative to the Potty Patch, you might try the Porch Potty (www.porchpotty.com). It can be used indoors or out. My dog took to it very easily with little training and can be used with real grass or artificial grass. It works really well for me.
Regarding the people who ordered Potty Patch and never received the product. Hopefully they used a credit card – NOT a debit card. If you ordered by credit card, contact your credit card company, tell them you were defrauded on a credit card purchase, and request a complaint form. Once you fill it out and return it, they will investigate. In most cases the charges can be reversed and credited back onto your card.
I hope this helps.
Before ordering the POTTY PATCH this morning 5/29/09, I got excited and e-mailed their web site: http://www.pottypatch.com to friends and family. I then proceeded with my order. It’s been a NIGHTMARE as my friends & family, who I e-mailed this site, advised me that my Debit Card information appeared when they clicked their link. I immediately called the company. It toow over 9 hours to get through and they didn’t seem concerned. After sending my information in my order, I never received a total of the order. I began to question this company, only to find out they don’t list an address or a regular phone number, other than their toll free number: 866-518-2294 and a FAX, which I got from a supervisor as: 866-823-9214 and a supervisor by the name of Monica. She gave me an address as: PO Box 3042; Wallingford, CT 06494.
After connecting with Monica, she advised me that the POTTY PATCH order would be processed the following Monday, June 1, 2009 and she could not cancel my order. I immediately called my bank and stopped payment.
I later checked with BBB and this company was not listed on their web site. I left a message with Attorney General in CT and hopefully the people, who have order this product will have more information on this company, which gives little information about them. It seems like a great product if it’s really legitimate.

I am interested in ordering the potty patch to simply test if works but I am concerned over the ordering issues I see here. Please advise when a real
resolution is reached as I am waiting on ordering to be sure this is a legitmate company,
Rosa – What a nightmare! Thanks for sharing your experience.
For all: see the post from 5/31 for the latest info I have – hoping commenters will update us on their experience.
I was also taken in at first by the Potty Patch product but after looking at it and similar products (“Poo Patch” at a whopping $255 price tag!) I decided that anyone could make one of these from readily available materials at a hardware store for under $10. No hassle with waiting for the order or worrying about being scammed. Use a large plastic tray, cover with two or three layers of steel grid mesh wire fencing, bend edges to fit into the tray with about 1″ of space then cover with a mat of either real sod or plastic grass mat…. Done!
I came across this site after receiving emails from the Potty Patch people as well. I’m glad I didn’t purchase one.
However, a very similar product has been advertised in the SkyMall in-flight magazine for over 2 years (the products come from Hammacher Schlemmer, very reputable). I have always received everything I’ve ordered through SkyMall (and I order a lot).
Their “Indoor Dog Restroom” is pricier ($140), but at least you know you’ll get the item and it’s apt to be much better quality. It also appears to be a bit larger.

I have tried everything with my little Bichon. The only thing that works is doggie diapers. Not any kind, I’ve tried them all, including toddler pampers that I wrapped around his middle. I get the diapers from http://www.do-rites.com/.
Hey George Peters — perhaps you should consider selling a “Peter’s Potty” for $30! It’ll be cheaper than the competition, and you’ll make a nice little profit!
** Hey George Peters*** I wanted to see if had an idea where this PVC/plastic tray could be purchased. I have checked with Menards, Home Depot, Lowes even. No luck so far. Also for others look to make their own there is an EBAY Seller: who sells the artifical turf at any sizes needed for a good price. His seller ID is: turf_man_sales
Any ideas for the tray part of things would be wonderful. I have found all other things needed.

large plastic tray might be found at lowes. especially in winter…….like a boot tray etc.
use a cat litter base
thanks for all of your feedback.
I just googled “potty patch” so that I could order a couple for my dogs. Thank goodness this site came up first. (Yes, I am one of those people who starts at the top and works my way down–oc, I know, but just how I do stuff!) Thank goodness!
I especially wanted to thank George Peters for the great idea on how to DIY. The one suggestion I might add is to be sure to “prime the pump” of the homemade version by adding the ever-so-eluring smell of doggy tinkle to start things off.
I’ll be doing this and report back as to how it works.
Thanks again, George!
Am so I glad I came upon this site. I was going to order a Potty Patch for my daughter. I like the idea of DIY. What about the lid from a large plastic tote
as the base, it’s bigger than a boot tray………
I SAW THE POTTY PATCH ON TV. I WANTED TO ORDER 2 FOR MY SISTER WHO LIVES IN IDAHO. THE WEATHER HAS BEEN AWFULLY THERE. HER LITTLE MALTESE + ?. IS SCARED TO GO OUTSIDE. I THOUGHT SHE COULD PUT 1 IN THE GARAGE AND ONE JUST OUTSIDE THE BACK DOOR. BUT, WHEN I TRIED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THE MEASUREMENTS. GUESS WHAT. NOBODY WILL ANSWER. THEN I WENT ON DOGGIES.COM AND I COULDN’T BELIEVE ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. IF THIS TURNS OUT TO BE A SCAM. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME WHERE TO GET SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
You can make your own doggy patch by purchasing a washing machine tray from Lowes. (used to prevent water damage from leaky overflowing washing machine) They are about $30. I would suggest a plastic flourescent light grid as a way to keep the artificial turf up off the bottom of the pan. These can be purchased at Lowes as well and cut to fit the pan. (They basically are just small squares that allow the light to go through and difuse the light.)
To keep the turf from moving around and sliding, I suggest velcro attachments to over lap to the outside of the tray. If the turf moves when the dog walks in it, they will be scared to stand on it.
I would also suggest perforating the rubber backing of the artificial turf to allow the dog pee to drain into the pan. To attract the dog to the doggy patch, purchase the scented puppy pads from PetSmart and place them under the artificial turf.
I haven’t tried this yet !! So not sure it will work,!! But I have been researching this for a upcoming move to a condo with no yard. Beats the late night walk in your pajamas!! Good luck !!
http://www.PORCHPOTTY.com is a better company with better customer service and has a great customer service and tons of support……
Do not give them your credit card number. Within days of ordering it online I had two unauthorized purchases of video games on my credit card. I have never bought video games and have not given anyone else my credit card number, so, I’m sure they stole my identity. Also, they told me that they don’t have my order on file because it takes several days to update their computer system. I knew right then something was seriously wrong. Buyers beware!!
Potty Patch … like Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty is a scam. Look carefully at the commercial … none of the dogs are going potty at all. They are just sitting there like they were trained to do so. Don’t buy it. Scam, scam, scam.
I can’t believe I read this after just having ordered it. I feel so scammed!
I was watching television and saw the ad for potty patch. I went online to place an order and found this blog site first. I’m so glad I did!! I hope everyone who has a complaint will be able to get it resolved. I will not be placing an order now, and I will definitely be checking out the possibility of making one for my doggies. Thank you!!!!
So I just ordered the potty patch and then came across this website with all these negative comments! I received an email immediately after I placed my order confirming it, it also provided a customer service number of 1-866-518-2294 and an email address of http://www.picustomerservice.com- my question is, has everyone else received these same email confirmations? Or are they trying to “better” there services now & are legit? Oh it also says that it takes 4-6 weeks to ship…
I received the potty patch email, ordered it online, received a confirmation number, but have no way of tracking the number on the website. As stated above, there is no way on contacting this company. I have not been billed as of yet, but am concerned about identity theft. What do I do now, do I contact the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs? I also had the feeling after ordering that something was wrong when they told me that it would take 3 – 4 days to process. What recourse do any of us have?
My sis emailed me this blog shortly after I placed my order. I contacted my cc. They said the charge had not gone through yet. A fraud alert has been placed on my account and a new card is being overnighted. The usual cc overnight fee of $15 was waived as this is possibly a fraud.
I forgot to say that as the charge had not been charged yet on my cc. The charge will be denied with the old cc acct. info as it is no longer valid info. should they ever put it through. I also replied to the customer service email order confirmation and gave them this blog for citing my reason to cancel.
i ordered the potty patch this morning..and found this toooo late. i’m not only upset about this, im very worried about identity theft too. i called the customer service number earlier because my address was incorrect on the confirmation email, but they said my order hasnt been processed yet. im going to take precautions and close my entire account. this needs to be addressed to the media, so everyone can be warned.
I am glad to discover this website—my coworker told me about this item and I was so impressed I started to order immediately but thought to check first. Thank goodness. I would like to have an item as effective as I can’t get home sometimes on schedule. HELP
Try a baking tray & Pine Pellets!! I have a terrier that is trained to go outside- uses her doggie door like a good girl. But at night, I want her to be able to “go” too. I have found that a 17 x 25 baking sheet- the kind with raised edge of about one inch – works great if you get some pine pellets and sprinkle a handful on the tray. I use Feline Pine ( don’t tell Molly)– It quickly absorbs the pee and no smell. Easy to slide the tray in a plastic garbage bag & dump. Then, use spray cleaner on the tray & stand in the shower and blast with hot water- let drain & dry in there. She poops in there too- just scoop out & flush. This has been a cheap effective solution. And Molly is happy. And she never pees anywhere else in the house. She knows where her panny pan is!
Somebody asked about an alternative to the Potty Patch…..
Try taking a look at a Tinkle Tray. This is 100% American Made and will
certainly be a good choice.
I ordered the potty patch and got it in the timely manner. It seemed as advertised. My puppy is not interested in going to the bathroom on it at all. She loves to go on the grass in the backyard, but the texture for her is different from grass. This may just be something specific to my own dog. I keep it outside on the upstairs deck, so it is not that she does not want to go inside . . .
I received my potty patch. In my opinion,Ithink its a rip off.My puppy is so confused now she potties on the carpet. She was using puppy pads pretty good ,now she doesn’t use either one .When taken outside she waits until she comes in to do her business. They suggest a spray to put on it which cost another $35-45 dollars. You cant return because it is not sanitary once the dog uses it .Good LuckTO ANYONE WHO USES IT.
I raise Irish Jack Russell Terrier puppies and have used 3-4 different types of these potty systems. They all work rather well with my puppers and give the new families a great head start on training.

has anyone who posted before recieved their pottypatch – not just new people with new posts – but people who have ordered and stated so on this blog.
It looks good but the Co seems shakey and I was going to order one.
but i would like to hear from those who blogged already and if they got the thing
How does this work with males? They do not squat to pee, they hike. how do they use it and still no get pee on the floor. I have a dachsund that I inherited at an older age, I assume because he was not trained right in the first place–he has issues from time to time, especially in the winter. It has gotten better since I got him, but at almost two years old when I adopted him, it was terrible! He hikes to pee. I can’t help but think he would hike on the side of this thing, not squat on it. Anyone wiht a male have this problem?
Wow!!! Me and my husband were thinking about getting the potty patch also after seeing the comercial on tv.. but that stinks that it might b a fraud
… i really liked it to…im glad we could all post comments to help each other out .. Still sucks i was sooo excited about it… BuMMer!?…
I agree with Dawwn that if you have a Bichon, doggie diapers work the best.
Thanks for posting Staci’s question. I had the presence of mind to
investigate before ordering. How does this or any of the “potty” dog
training devices work for male dogs? I have two male toy poodles
who started hiking their legs at a month of age!
I am so glad that I had read all these blogs! I stayed clear of the Potty Patch. They did not sound like a reputable company. I did purchase a litter box from Rascal Dog Litter Box Company. They promise same day shipping if your order is placed by 3:00. I did place my order at 2:10 pm and my box was shipped that day. The comany sent me an e-mail with the UPS tracking code number so that I knew my package was shipped. I paid a little more, but I know that my money was not thrown away. I was getting a new puppy and I wanted a litter box at my house before I brought him home. Also, the company offers phone/e-mail support if you have trouble with litter box training your dog.
Three of the four dogs that I have owned have been male dogs. They all lifted their leg to “tinkle”. I did not understand how the flat grass would keep them from peeing on the walls. I looked around on the internet and found a litter box with sides. The box is designed for little dogs which is perfect for my Yorkie. Also, the grass is machine washable which should make life easier….It is called the Rascal Dog Litter Box.
I have read all through the site and will probably choose this one due to I don’t want my new male puppy to “tinkle” on the walls.
My name is John Thacker and I am the president of Doggiepottys.com. I have been producing dog grass littlerboxes for 3 years now via the web. The pottypatch is very similar to the doggiepotty with a few key exceptions. First off, there is no customer service and no return policy. Secondly the products turf will need to be replaced at some point in time due to odor buildup. There is no such thing as “smellproof” turf. So how do you order replacement turf. The folks at pottypatch want you to purchase and thats it. From what Ive been reading, many of the orders arent even filled. This is sad considering that I have worked hard for years to provide a quality product with quality customer care. Although my product is more expensive, it is of much better quality and the service to back it up comes free of charge. Thats something the pottypatch as seen on tv cant match.
Great blog…now has anyone tried the Doggie Potty from John Tacker at http://www.doggiepotty.com? Any reviews on his product is greatly appreciated.
Another popular dog potty is Pup-Head, and they have been in business for years.
They also have replacement turf and other products. Their website is http://www.pupgearcorporation.com
Hey from Canada.
Build your own doggy patch for about 10.00 bucks. I wrote and something happened and the puter swallowed up my comment. Anyway, Get a plastic kitty litter box, a piece of plastic fencing with holes about a half inch made into a frame, stands about a half inch off the bottom so puppy is not standing in wet and then a piece of astro turf. Have a couple of those cut so when one gets too soiled you can wash it and use the other dry one.
My puppy just loves it.
I too decided to try this product. When I paid for it, (I ordered the large patch), the price was not listed beside it. I was not aware that the cost of the large patch was close to $100.00 (of course this was neglected to be mentioned). I was expecting the large patch to cost more, but certainly not $50+. I was bombarded by numerous screens offering me all these wonderful “products and services”. Unfortunately, the printing on the screen was very minute and I must have missed checking something off to turn it down. Subsequently, my checking account was raided for several hundred dollars. My bank froze my account for questionable activity, and I ended up with a balance of 88.00. Slowly my money seems to be coming back. I reported this so-called company to the Better Business Bureau. The do have a “contact us” link on the bottom of the page of their web site, at http://www.pottypatch.com. I contacted them and told them of my great displeasure of their company and services, and requested the return of my money and to have my order cancelled. I will not hold my breath for the return of my money.
Wow! I just came across this site and I am feeling lucky. I ordered a potty patch in June and received it within a few days. I didn’t have any problems with my credit card being over charged either. I usually have horrible luck, thank goodness this didn’t turn out to be a bad experience for me.
I have two dogs. I have a 2 year old miniature schnauzer and a 3 month old yorkie/bischon. My two year old has been trained to go potty outside. But he will use the potty patch if he has to go before we can take him out. And the puppy goes on the potty patch regularly. I keep it cleaned so I don’t have any odors (I put a puppy pad underneath the “grass” so it’s easier to clean.)
I hope everyone gets their problems with their orders figured out. It’s unfortunate so many people are having a bad experience because the pottypatch is something that could be beneficial to a lot of people.
What a piece of garbage! I waited for over 3 weeks, even though the money came out of my account, immediately. It just came, and my living room is COVERED in the green turf. It’s NOT sewn on the edges, and the stuff comes out in CLUMPS. Customer service just said, ‘Ummm, Ummm…well, you could send it back…I guess, once they received it….” NOT good enough. No instructions, no booklet, no email contact, and NO policy. Defective? No, it’s just made like crap. My dog doesn’t want anything to do with it, yet; but it’s only for his sake that I even got it (in case I’m not there, in emergency, etc.) I don’t trust them to return, and actually get my money. WHAT A MESS THIS THING IS!! Someone else will surely make it, and SEW THE STUFF DOWN.
BAD, BAD, BAD purchase. Hopefully, it will help my dog, at least once!!
Hi Gayle,
Thank you for your e-mail and congratulations on your recent purchase. The Potty Patch is an AKC-licensed product. When you placed your order, did you receive information on how long it would take to get to you? The number for their customer service team is 866-518-2294. Is this how you tried reaching them and had trouble? Please let me know and I will make sure that you get through to someone there to answer your questions.
All the best,
Jackie
I got my patty patch in two weeks and the best thing I ever got. Dog went right to it like she knew what it was. So all the people who wonder about this product I have got one and love it. I also posted when AKC endorsed it
I think the key is that my papillon puppy came to me from the breeder litter box trained. But I didn’t want him to be kicking the little wood pellets all over the place so I switched him to the Pup-Head. It works like a charm!! He has only had one accident! I am shocked at how easy it is for all of us. He also will go outside, but I really don’t even have to think about it when we are inside. He has been living with us now for 3 months and I can’t believe there is no odor, I just hose it off outside a couple times a week. I have two pup-heads so one is always clean, dry and ready. I think the “potty patch” is an inexpensive immitation of the Pup-Head but I ordered one because it is a little smaller and it might be handy when we travel. I hope it arriives soon!
O.K. here is my real story. After reading all the neg. comments I called the company and was told that they were unprepared for the response they got but were now shipping out orders. I Ordered a large PP on July 8, 2009 and received it July 27th. I was satified with the delivery time and have had no problems with my credit card as noted by others. I am very satisfied with the product except that the large one is really two smalls ones put together and held by a plastic strip. My dog doesn’t seem to care so that’s fine with with me. Actually it’s easier to that way. The artificial grass looks better than our lawn.
We live in Florida and are out most of the day so we paper trained our little girl to go out the doggy door and piddle on the newspaper we put out on the lania. The Potty Patch is working out great for the following reasons:
1. The grass looks much better than newspaper
2. Clean up is much easier. We use puppy pads under the grass. When we get home we just pick up any solid waste and the pads and put them in a trash bag. We keep a box of trash bags out on the lania. Tie the bag in a knot and your done.
3. Our dog took to the grass immediately and even seems to prefer it to the paper.
4. With the newspaper our dogs paws would get wet and she would leave prints accross the tile on the lania that I would have to mop up daily. With the Potty Patch grass this is no longer a problem.
The bottom line is that I would recommend this product to anyone who may have a need for it. Now, If I can only train my husband to use it.
OMG!!!! DO NOT go to this website. After 10 minutes of clicking cancel, X, (I have norton and pop-up blocker and it still broke through) I had to restart my computer. Ran a quick scan and have a ridiculous amount of tracking cookies that were isolated. If you’re set on this product, wait a bit and it will probably show up in Walmart or Petsmart.
Thanks to all who offered their bad experiences. You probably just saved me a lot of money and aggrevation!!!
I am yet another person who has ordered the Potty Patch from the add on television and have not received the merchandise. My order was placed on June 26th and I have contacted the company and told them to cancel the order but they returned an email telling me that it was almost ready to ship and they could not cancel the order. I moved from a house with a yard with my English Bulldog Aussie and now live in a condo downtown on the tenth floor and was counting on this in order to keep my dog. I have been given a 14 day notice since moving in that I must get rid of my dog or will be evicted because she is using the outdoor pation on training pads at times when I am working. I am so frustrated with this company and even more so after seeing that so many others have not receved the merchandise either. I will watch to see if any helpfull information is posted here and if I ever receive my Potty Patch I too will post that.
Thank you for your help. Billie Golovine
The website says that this product is “brought to you by the American Kennel Club.” Perhaps a call to AKC may help clear the matter? If they are unaware of the use of their logo, it may be good to have them on our side as an ally to get these scam artists off line
I too have been interested in purchasing the PP but cant find a site that ships to Canada. After reading these comments I think I’m going to take the approach of making my own .
Janet Weavers idea posted on July 20th is great . Hopefully you see this Janet as im not sure what you mean by framing the plastic fencing. Plastic fencing is a half inch thick and you framed it with??? Not sure what you mean?
Where did you purchase the fencing?
I think it’s amazing (not in a good way) that everyone here has had horrible experiences when purchasing the potty patch or prior to purchasing. Oddly enough, I received the potty patch after 2 weeks of ordering due to backorder (or so they say). Stupid me not coming across these posts first sucks because I could have just made my own potty patch! But surprising… the potty patch I ordered actually does work. When I brought it home, my dog took one look at it, sniffed it, & walked away. Once time came that he had to go outside (i live in an apartment, by the way), he went towards the potty patch, sniffed it again, & actually went potty! It impressed me. So, I’m very sorry for everyone else that has been having an issue with either both this product & the company. I’m having no complaints, so far…
Thei is the one of the dumbest items I’ve seen yet on T.V. Yea, I want a pan of dog pee setting at room temp. in my home all day long. Is it really something we need?
wow!
i was about to order potty patch and I wasn’t sure if I really should so I went to their website. I read it. Sounded cool. I still wasn’t so sure. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPING ME!!!!!!!!!! so then I went here.WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW.
I’m sooooooooooo glad i didn’t order.
Although I didn’t order I still want this problem resolved. PLEASE SOLE IT
AND WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE THEIR WEBSITE I HAD ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS!
THEY WOULDN’T LET ME CLOSE IT
THEY SAID ” you have been pick from the millions of happy coustemers to have a super speciel offer!” THAT WOULDN’T CLOSE FOR A WHILE TOO!
I ordered and received a potty patch within a week. I also telephoned the company with a question and received an immediate answer to my question. There is an 800# on the bottom of the website. I haven’t had the patch long enough to know if it works, but I had no problems with the company whatsoever. 8/09
I bought something at walmart today called a spotty. It looks the same. You get 2 in the box for 39.99. Hope this helps.
I purchased the potty patch for my 4 dogs, since I’m gone so much, taking care of my Mom. They were not the least bit interested. And, therefore never even touched by them. I tried to return it. I was asked if the box had ever been opened. Well, yes. How would I know they wouldn’t use it, if I hadn’t opened it. Needless to say, they wouldn’t take it back. Great customer service!!
Thanks for this blog, I found the Potty Patch customer service number (1-866-518-2294) and call about my three week old order/; and was surprized to talk to a real human being. They said it would ship in about a week. My credit card has not yet been billed. And I’ve had no problems with the company except that I haven’t yet received the product.
In case I do, I’d like to know more from the lady that purchased something like this from Walmart. What’s it called? and what company makes it? I’m sure it’s not at my Walmart yet and I might like to take a look at it. Is she happy with it?
Thanks, Bev
So glad that I read all this before placing my order for the Potty Patch!!! I ordered a litterbox today from a company called the Rascal Dog Litter Box. They promise same day shipping. I did receive my tracking code number, so at least I now it is on the way. They e-mailed me my tracking number the day that I ordered their product………I hope I made a good choice! I really want to litter box train my new puppy.
i seen this commercial
what happens if the dog POOPS? that thing only works for urine
Well I am glad to know that they are not answering their messages. As afar as Demon goes… U will still need to flush the poop. Anyway someone once told me ‘housebreaking’ is just that. It is teaching your dogs to be trained to the rules of the house. We are able to go to the bathroom when we want to so dogs have to wait until we open up the door or come home. If this works I will be so happy because I have to pen up my dogs and then go home in mid afternoon to let them out.
TRY IT
I, too, have considered ordering the Potty Patch at the request of my daughter who saw the ad on the internet. She lives in an apartment & wanted one for her own little Yorkshire Terrier. Luckily, she called me before ordering & in checking out the PottyPatch.com’s website, I searched for product reviews, finding myself here. I’d love to have the product IF it works as I have 4 lil teacup and toy sized poodles and have had to train them to newspapers indoors since I use a motorized chair. I’d probably break my neck trying to get them out to use the potty outside consistently! Also, my dad has a huge dog that runs loose on our farm & would just love to have any one of my doggies for a snack! I’m very interested in finding out more about the similar product from Walmart & how well it works as I’d buy it from there to try it for sure. I am skeptical of the Potty Patch site after reading so many negative comments posted here. I noticed that PalPal was not an option too which I’d consider a safer option for ordering from an “unknown company.” I’ll keep checking the posts here for updates and thank you so much for hosting such a useful site!
the product talks about number one, what about number two.
my concern is if it mays 1 on it, it probably will make 2
unrine is easy to clean, but number 2 many times comes out soft or lose
the webpage doesnt mention when a dog goes number two
anyone no anything how the product work
I ordered two large pottypatch from the website on June 26th. Soon after I started receiving emails telling me that the items will be shipped on Aug 1st, then Aug 16th and now I got one stating Sept 21st. I had enough and call the customer service number: 1-866-518-2294 and cancelled my order. Now we’ll see if they did and if I have any suspicious charges added to my credit card.
My mom ordered this for my yorkie and IG. After she told me about this product I looked up reviews to see exactly what this potty patch is. I immediately called her and told her to stop the order. I am sorry she didn’t see these reviews before purchasing this product.
My IG was litter trained and this worked well for awhile, but she would put her front paws in the litter and wee on the floor, so we put pads under the tray to catch the accidents, then ended up using just pee pads, as a cheap alternative. My mom was trying to get an odor free way for my pets to go. I hope that she doesn’t have problems with her credit card.
Glad I did my homework and found this website before I became another statistic to this company that does not deliver their product.
I just got a 12 week old YORKIE and I wanted to litterbox train her. I was nervous about ordering a litter box on the internet due to the Potty Patch and the unfavorable reports on the company.
Someone told me about a company called the Rascal Dog Litter Box. I did order a litter box from them. I spoke with the owner and told her that I was nervous about ordering a litter box on line due to the Potty Patch mess. She assured me that my product would be shipped that day and that I would be e-mailed a UPS Tracking code. My box was shipped and I did receive an e-mail with the tracking number the day I ordered the box.
I will receive the litter box tomorrow! Can’t wait to start training “Little Lucy”.

I too was going to order the potty patch today. I started thinking hmm I really don’t know anyone who has tried it so decided to look it up. I’m glad I found this site because even though there are positive and negative responses to the potty patch, I’d rather not chance it. I just sent a question to the Rascal Dog Litter Box place and about 10min after I posted the question I got a call from the owner. I had asked about a larger litter box than what they sell because I have a puppy that will be a large dog (he pretty much refuses to go outside and waits until we get inside to go to the restroom) Although her answer was they don’t have anything bigger, she did tell me if I wanted to call her back after 4 she can tell me what I can buy at Home Depot to make my own. Now that’s customer service. She’s not even making a profit from me and she’s willing to help me with the problem I’m having.
I ordered one before I saw this site. The order went as most do, with the offer of $10 cash back. It was however, followed up with the usual ad related junk that accompanies flim flam gimmics. They want you to order this item, but what they really want is the $14.95/month for membership in their ad scam.
I called the customer service line, to see when they’ll be delivering the merchandise. The guy who answered said it takes 4 to 7 business days to process the credit card. Then, it takes 3 to 6 weeks to deliver.
Reputable businesses don’t do it this way. For $8.95 shipping, they should be able to send UPS ground. I asked if this comes direct from China, since the shipping takes so long. The consultant didn’t know anything about it.
Beware this outfit.
Unfortuately I was NOThappy with the Potty Patch at all. I was very excited when I recieved it because I thought it would put an end to the disposable piddle pads … well, I’m back to using the pads and out $50. I have a small 7 pound pomeranian and by the end of the second day the Patch smelled horrendous … I didn’t realize that you need to wash it thoroughly with warm soap and water EVERY day and it STILL smells of urine. I had to throw it out after the first week. The piddle pads are much easier and do not smell because I use a fresh one daily. Something to consider before you purchase this item …
BY THE WAY … after posting on this site I began reading all the comments and found it funny because I too got no response from customer service when I ordered my potty patch and when I went to run a trace on the item it said it was BACKORDERED and i would not recieve it for like two months … NO word from customer service … and I would’ve never known had I not run a trace on the package … What is up with this place … AND the product was HORRIBLE and a total waste of money …
Thanks so much for the headsup info about “Potty Patch”! I was just about to order the product. My money is tight, as I’m on a fixed income. I would have been very upset about the failure to receive the product or having my money tied up or taken without product delivery. Thanks for being on the alert!
YOU’D HAVE TO BE A REAL MORON TO CONSIDER BUYING SUCH A RIDICULOUS PRODUCT, give me a break.
I wont even waste time here typing all the reasons why.
Pee pads and all those other things, are a waste of time AND money, …and does NOTHING in training the dog to go to the bathroom OUTSIDE! ALL IT DOES IT MAKE TRAINING MORE DIFFICULT AND DOUBLE THE TIME.
its common sense, ..
train the puppy to pee on a paper??? AND THEN train them to go outside???
…unless you ALWAYS WANT your dog to go to the bathroom inside, thats different …but i meet so many people who “paper train” and THEN want the dog to go outside.
Still cant believe anyone would waste money on such a product
Unfortunetly, I ordered this damned potty patch on July 04, 2009. The charge for it showed up on my credit card statement on July 28, 2009. When I called their 866 number, they informed me that it had been sent to our Post Office (we are in a rural area). According to my Post Office it was returned, party unknown. But that isn’t the worst of it. On August 20th I noticed two charges on my credit card for $14.95 (that’s $29.90 a month-endlessly). These charges were for United Marketing Group and totally unauthorized by me. When I got in touch with them, I told them so and that they had better refund the $29.90. I was lucky that they did so!!!! However, since I didn’t receive the “potty patch” I requested that the company cancel my order and refund my money. They have until the end of this business day to do so. If they don’t, I’m fired up enough to contact the CT Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and anyone else that will listen. Say a prayer that no more unauthorized charges show up. I’ve come to believe that there is very little honesty left in this world. Anybody else feel that way?
Wow, thanks everyone. I was going to order one also. I don’t have any grass in my backyard and we are looking to adopt a dog. Anyone have any ideas if your backyard is all concrete??
Hey Lori,
I live up in the mountains in Colorado. I have no fence in yard are grass. With all the wildlife (foxes, & deers) that roam here in the day time there no way I let my Chihuahuas on the ground. I’ve found a solution using a kiddy pool with sand. Kitty litter works good too.
For those of you that ordered the Potty Patch, I found the customer service info on the website to contact them regarding your orders.

Hope this helps.
I ordered the potty patch. Everytime I call they answer the phone and the girl on the phone is very customer friendly and helpful. She explained that they were on back order for a long time because of the demand. They are on track now and it took 1 week to get it. Thanks potty patch
To Lori: You can put astroturf on your concrete backyard, and just hose it down occasionally to clean it. A friend of mine lived in a condo in Honolulu, with a concrete lanai, and he put astroturf down for his dog. Never hosed it down, just picked up the solid matter, and let the trade winds air out any odors.
For us working folks it is hard to create a schedule for our pets or to even train them. I work about 30 min away from my apartment and had to drive back home during my 30 min lunch break just to let the dog out, what a nightmare!!! I lost 10 lbs though, LOL :0) I did some research online and came across a dog potty. I bought one from this site http://www.dogpottyoutlet.com and it totally worked!. Now I dont have to worry about letting my pet out or creating a schedule!. It only took him about a week to get trained to it. The great thing about my dog potty is that it dosen’t smell like gross pee pads. What a great invention!
Glad I found this site, will most definately be doing more research…my question, to happy potty patch owners..did the site you were on have an 866 #? Because the site I was looking at had an 800 #…800-470-2914..is that the “real” site??
I ordered the potty patch in July, 2009. I received a post card from the company the first week in September that there was a delay and if I wanted they could refund my money. The potty patch arrived later that week. I decided to purchase this because during the day, there is no way for my pet to relieve herself. To my surprise she is even pooping on the potty patch. Puppy pads should be placed in the grate to absorb the urine. It should be cleaned with soapy water and hung to dry to avoid the smell of urine. I am a happy pet owner because my pet is no longer sneaking to poop in a corner nor is she ruining my area rug!
I ordered the potty patch on Aug 10 and have yet to receive it. Since the reviews on here are so mixed and I haven’t been charged, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for it. The date on the order status site is constantly changing. It went from 9/23 to 9/10 to 9/14 and now its at 10/10. Ridiculous.
I can’t believe such a large company was able to fraud so many people!! I ordered in Aug. 2009 and still havn’t received my potty patch. I recieved a confirmation email which claims that the item is back ordered but after reading all this, idk if thats the case. I wish I had known this before they charged me 150 dollars!
it took a few months to get my pads, the customer service wasn’t up to par but have gotten better. It was worth the wait, no more doggie pads.
at first they would poo on it but not weewee, they would right next to it but not on it.
I’m a homemaker so I remove the poo right away, not realizing that I left no scent on the pad for them to identify with. The next time they went next to it, I cleaned the weewee up with a paper towel and placed it under the grass mat.
Victory, they use it all the time.
i think the problem is that they are overwhelmed and didn’t realize how popular the product is . Hang on ladies, you’ll love it once you get it.
Customer service is 1 866 518 2294,
the phone number for the potty patch is 1800-378-0742
i just rescued a small dog just my angel , her previous “family” if they can be call like that, kept her outside day and night so now i wnat to be potty trained inside becuse i dont want her to go out went is really cold so i really want this potty thing hopefully it will work
Unfortunately, I ordered the Potty Patch on August 6, 2009 based on the TV ads. Immediately after I placed the order, I saw a pending charge on my account for the 3 potty patches I ordered but the hard charge did not post to my account at that time. By the end of August I had e-mailed and called customer service several times because the expected delivery date on their website changed constantly…at times it even changed several times in the same day! The response was always the same:
Due to the high demand for this product the items on back order will be shipped as quickly as possible and your credit card will not be charged until the order is shipped.
After several months of this run-around, I did a little investigating and found several websites hosting posts from other folks who have had similar experiences so I decided to cancel my order. On Friday, Sept 18th I checked the order status website and the items I ordered were still showing to be on back order and the expected delivery date was now pushed out to mid-October. I immediately sent an e-mail to customer service advising them to cancel my order. Now, typically it would take a minimum of two attempts to get a response to any other questions I sent them but lo-and-behold a cancellation request got me a same day response from them…just about 7 hours later! Exactly like another duped customer who described their experience with a cancellation request I got the following response:
Thank you for contacting customer service. Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your order since it is being processed for shipment. Your order will be shipping out of our warehouse in the next couple business days and once the product ships please allow 7-14 business days for delivery. If you no longer wish to keep the order once you receive it please follow the return instructions below:
Please return by Insured Parcel Post or UPS, whichever is more convenient and send to:

Now, I am no statistician but just doing the simple math…about a month for me to actually receive these items, another few weeks for the shipping return and another month for the refund to show on my account means they will have my money in their pocket for approximately 3 months. I checked my account and sure enough the pending charge is back and suddenly the order status is showing “in process”. Other consumers are now reporting that they are finding random charges on their accounts since giving this company their credit card information and they have also not had any success in getting the company to cancel their orders, they have no product and the saga goes on and on! As an added bonus, I received a post card in the mail from the company 3 days after I attempted to cancel the order. The postcard reaffirmed that the items remained on back order and were not expected to ship until Oct. 5th. The postcard also indicated that I could cancel the order by contacting customer service or by signing and returning the postcard if the delay was not acceptable and I have now done both but they still refuse to cancel my order. I have now filed a complaint with the CT office of teh Better Business Bureau (http://www.connecticut.bbb.org/) and with th CT Attorney General’s Office (attorney.general@po.state.ct.us) and strongly recommend anyone with similar problems do the same!
IVE BEEN SITTING HERE FOR LIKE A HOUR READING THESE POST

I AM FURIOUS! MY ORDER WAS PLACED AUGUST 31, 2009. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO ASK ABOUT THE EXPECTED ARRIVAL DATE. MY DEBIT CARD WAS CHARGED SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 FOR THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE POTTY PATCH PURCHASE. I SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE SEPTEMBER 25, 2009, THE LADY TOLD ME IT “SHOULD” BE SHIPPED WITHIN TWO WEEKS, BUT THAT THERE WAS NO FORSEEABLE DATE IN WHICH THEY WOULD BE RECEIVING THE POTTY PATCH’S TO SHIP. SHE SAID THEY WERE VERY BACKED UP AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO TELL WHEN THEY WOULD COME IN FOR SHIPMENT. THAT BEING SAID. I CHECK MY ACCOUNT THIS MORNING, SEPTEMBER 28, 2009, AND MY CARD HAS BEEN CHARGED AGAIN, AND NOW MY BANK ACCOUNT HAS OVER DRAFTED. I HAVE ONLINE BILLS PENDING TO BE PAID, THAT NOW WILL NOT GO THROUGH BECAUSE POTTY PATCH HAS OVER CHARGED ME. I CALLED TO CANCEL MY ORDER BECAUSE OF THE OVER CHARGE. I CANNOT RECALL THE NAME, BUT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE TOLD ME MY ORDER WOULD BE CANCELED AND THAT I HAD NOT BEEN DOUBLE CHARGED. [THEY APPARENTLY REFUNDED IT?]. I CANCELED, AND WAS NOT GIVEN A CANCELLATION NUMBER BEFORE BEING HUNG UP ON BUT POTTY PATCH CUSTOMER SERVICE. I THEN CALLED BACK IMMEDIATELY, I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER MALE, HE INFORMED ME THAT “ALL THE SUDDEN” MY POTTY PATCHES HAD BEEN SENT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009, AND THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT IT. WHY ALL THE SUDDEN DID I CANCEL, AND NOW THEY WERE ALREADY SHIPPED? SO NOW POTTY PATCH IS TELLING ME I MUST RECEIVE THEIR PRODUCT, PAY THE SHIPPING, AND THEN PAY TO GET IT SHIPPED BACK TO THEM TO GET A REFUND FOR THE PRODUCT ONLY… CAN ANY ONE SAY SCAM WITH ME? UM LAWSUIT? THIS COMPANY IS CRAP. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CRAP. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO UNSATISFIED WITH AN ONLINE PURCHASE. I AM 22 AND PURCHASE THINGS ONLINE ALL THE TIME. I WILL BE DISPUTING THIS, AND IF I AM FORCED TO PAY, WILL BE GOING TO COURT. I BEG ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN SCAMMED BY THIS COMPANY TO DO THE SAME. THIS IS NOT FAIR. IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY TROUBLE, PLEASE CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AS WELL. THIS CANNOT CONTINUE.
Autumn, I’m sorry to hear about your experience…welcome to my world! I have been dealing with this for two months solid and know there are folks who have been going through this for even longer.
I have now contacted the BBB and it says there is nothing they can do for this type of claim. I don’t even have an address for “potty patch”. I put the eagle eye customer service address in there. I guess Potty Patch really check all their angles so they could scam people without consequences. Please contact me if anyone is interested in making a claim against the Potty Patch company for a refund. This is unacceptable.

Another “BEWARE” piece of info…I have read that IF you do get the product and open the box, the company will not accept the return!!! So, if you do expect to return it DO NOT OPEN THE BOX!
The BBB did take my complaint and I am in the middle of correspondences with them. I received this e-mail from the BBB that may be of interest to you all. PLEASE note the company name that they have supplied here!

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)
On September 18th when I requested the cancellation, the status of my order on this company’s website indicated that the product was on back order. In addition, I received a postcard in the mail from them on September 21st indicating that the products would not be available until mid-October and that if this delay was not acceptable I could cancel by contacting customer service (which I had already done 3 days before). Within hours of my request to cancel this order, I was told that the order was being processed and could not be cancelled. Today is now the 28th (10 days since they claim the order was already processed) and I still have no product. The terms of their return policy indicate the product must be returned via insured postage at my expense adding an additional financial burden to me for a product I do not want and which I cancelled within the time frame of their own post card. There are many, many people out there with similar stories regarding this company and their less than honest business practices. I recommend the BBB research this further as there should be several complaints about this company now. In addition, I have notified the CT Attorney Generals Office and believe several other consumers have as well.

I saw a pending charge on my account for the 3 potty patches I ordered but the hard charge did not post at that time. By the end of August I had e-mailed and called customer service several times (copies of the e-mails can be provided) because the expected delivery date changed constantly…at times it even changed several times in the same day! The response was always the same:
Due to the high demand for this product the items on back order will be shipped as quickly as possible and your credit card will not be charged until the order is shipped.
After several months, I did a little investigating several sites hosting postings from other folks who have had similar experiences so I decided to cancel my order. On the morning of Friday, Sept 18th I checked the order status website and the items were still showing to be on back order and the expected delivery date was now pushed out to mid-October. I immediately sent an e-mail to customer service advising them to cancel my order. Typically it would take a minimum of two attempts to get a response to any other questions I sent them but lo-and-behold a cancellation request got me a same day response from them…just about 7 hours later! I received the following response:
Thank you for contacting customer service. Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your order since it is being processed for shipment. Your order will be shipping out of our warehouse in the next couple business days and once the product ships please allow 7-14 business days for delivery. If you no longer wish to keep the order once you receive it please follow the return instructions below:
Please return by Insured Parcel Post or UPS, whichever is more convenient and send to:
Eagle Eye Marketing
400 Returns Rd
Wallingford, CT 06494
Hold onto any receipts in the unlikely event that we do not receive your return. You will need them to trace the shipment.
Immediately upon receipt of your return, a credit for the purchase price will be applied to your account. This credit should reflect on your billing statement next month.
Sincerely,

Clearly my cancellation was received prior to shipment and they are refusing to cancel this order. I checked my account and their pending charge is back. I am concerned that they are going to have my moeny for nearly 3 months, are requiring that I pay the return shipping costs and they now have all of my information! I have read some posts from folks in the same situation as me who are now seeing randome charge activity!

I purchased the Potty Patch for our mini-schnauzer. We live in a top floor condo and he has no access to a yard during the day. He uses the Potty Patch and it works well. It is a great tool if we both aren’t able to get home on time – he will use it – most of the time he holds it until we get home, but if he needs to go, he will use it. He didn’t use the puppy pads – other than to tear them up and play with them. He can’t really play with the Potty Patch.
hi everyone was woundering if anyone knows of anything else to help puppys from pee and wee
Erica, the pee pads that they sell in any pet store have worked well for me for years. I have three Chihuahuas and all three have used them without incident since they were puppies and one of them is 14 years old now. I only got interested in this potty patch because it looked like grass so thought it would be a nice change for my girls. Wish I had just stuck with what I know works and I wouldn’t be in te middle of this pickle right now!
ive tried the pads and she seems to still pee and wee where ever i need something that will really work any help ty
What helped me initially was putting some of their own urine or feces on the pad and then putting the puppy on it several times a day so they get the idea. Next time your pup has an “accident” use the pad to clean it up and put the pup on the pad. Also, if you notice your pup going in one particular spot, put the pads there initially until she gets the hang of it. Once my first one learned what they were all about each new one just followed her example.
Like a lot of other people on this site I was about to order a Potty Patch and then completely by accident I found this blog. I just don’t understand how so many people have been scammed by this product and then other people have rave reviews for it, received it on time, and love it. Did this product and company become reliable? or should I find a different solution?
??
I am interested in the potty patch because of the low price. I think the best advice for those still wanting to try this product (like me) is to order it from a reputable company like Carol Wright gifts..or Hammer Schlemmer..or Miles Kimball that already has them in stock. I plan to order mine from Carol Wright gifts. They have a 1-800 that you can call to verify that they do indeed have the product already on hand and since I have ordered from them before I know they have excellent customer service. You just have to think outside the box sometimes! : )

For anyone in Canada, Showcase stores will be carrying the Potty Patch this week. With all of the horror stories on this site, it’s great to know that you can walk into a store, see the product, pay for it, and leave with the product…no waiting, no shipping & handling charges, no run around about shipping dates.
Hey guys…I ordered mine last week… I called in my order, I even told the girl that I ordered from that I had been hearing that this was a scam and such. She said mine would be here on the 12th and the website I can track it with is customerstatus.com. Hope this is helpful to anyone who got screwed on the deal. Im still keeping my fingers crossed that I am not one of those people too!
Hi,
I ordered my potty patch online about 2 weeks ago and received it a couple days (yes I was really surprised, given all the comments on here).
I am having a really hard time getting my dog to use it and I need some help.
Here is the background…
My dog is 13 years old and has been trained to go bathroom outside. He had developed Diabetes and because of that Cataracts so his vision is very limited. He will have to be home alone for a greater part of the day as my family and I are all working in the day time, so no one can let him outside during the afternoons. So I would like to train him to use this asap.
- I put some of his urine on the potty patch so he can recognize his scent and hopefully go there. I also led him to the patch after his dinner when he usually goes. But he did not go.
- I tried to use this puppy house training spray on the mat, but it still didnt work.
- I have been trying to associate the act of him going pee with the word “Pee”, when he goes outside so that when I tell him the command at the potty patch he could understand me…but that didnt work either.
I dont know what else to do…
You need to get your dog some clarkia. You will see an improvement in her health. It may not help with the potty training but atleast she will be regaining her health!
my puppy itches when she gets on it…. she also tries to eat the turf…….
I have a Chihuahua and he potty’s outside BUT if I am at work a little longer then normal, he will use his indoor potty system. I trained him to both and he does great with them. I use the ugo system and it is very easy to use and clean up is very easy. https://www.ugodog.net/ I also foster and my foster dog will use it as well.
PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!! I was very disappointed with the Potty Patch from the very beginning. It took 6 weeks to receive after placing my order on September 4th which gave me plenty of time start house breaking my puppy. Once it arrived and i looked at it i thought ” what a piece of junk”. It is a piece of “grass” carpet cut from a larger roll, it sheds very bad and the string inside to “pad” where the grass is sewn is hanging out everywhere! I put it on the floor for my puppy to explore awhile, I wasn’t sure if it was something I needed to train him to use or if he would gravitate to it on his own ,and when I came back a few minutes later all the grass had been pulled from the pad!! It was everywhere!! It looked like someone had cut the grass inside my house!! TAKE THE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT, YOUR DOG WILL BENIFIT MUCH MORE FROM HOUSE BREAKING.
My bichon took to it after a few weeks, and he has been using it for a few days. I am cleaning it as directed, but it smells HORRIBLE!!! I cant imagine using it inside my home. I am going to have to bag up the turf, and throw it away, and try potty pads or cat litter…i cant stand the smell…
Thank YOU ALL! I was about to purchase the Potty Patch from the story David from Canada mentioned… Showcase (aka: As Seen On TV) for $49.99, thinking how lucky I am not to have to pay dollar conversion PLUS no shipping & handling charges…. BUT…. so many of you mention the stench. Then I got to thinking… maaaaybe it’s even made in China. Do I want that… um, no!
And then, Jolayne Simpson mentioned the Tinkle Tray (thank YOU for this goody Jolayne!). My dog is very smart in that when he wants to go outside, he asks. Most times once it’s dark outside, raining, and/or cold, he prefers to use a newspaper covered pee pan supplied for him to use (that sits in my downstairs laundry room) when I’m not at home. His only complaint when first using the pee-pan was that his paws get wet… so considering all of the complaints on stench; it seems to me that the Tinkle Tray would be THE best product for my Shih Tzu. I’m betting he’ll love it! Here’s their website again: http://www.krugerquarterhorses.com/tinkletray.htm … it considers both pee and poo AND is a lot easier to clean.
Am waiting to hear back from Marj Kruger as to whether she can deliver outside the United States. I pray she can…. else I will attempt to create my own homemade version from the many tips offered in several comments posted here… minus the plastic grass!
A tip most credit card users may NOT have considered; when I have problems getting my money returned, I contact my credit card company and they represent me… providing I have tried unsuccessfully, first. They’ve NEVER let me down!
I have not used the BBB since the 1970s when THEY provided the business I complained about with a copy of my letter… and I was threatened by that company.
Thanks Beth for a great website!!!!
hey all if you haven’t gotten your potty patches yet and was not charged, try ordering one through publishers clearing house.. i have ordered one yesterday and haven’t gotten it yet but i always get what i order from publishers clearing house its a little more espensive like 15.00 more but its a ligit company and you will get your product. i can’t wait to get mine…i know my dogs will fight for a spot..lol they love the grass and puppy pads in the house are too messy in my book sure they use them but so does my cat and when he scratches to cover up he gets the dogs poo all over around it…so it will work out wonderfully for me i have no doubt.
correction. the potty patch is not a little more expensive on publishers clearing house. in fact its 9.00 cheaper than the prices i have been seeing on the sites here. thanks
It won’t stop raining in here in Texas and winter is on its way. My dog is great about going out when he needs to, but he does not go out in the rain! I feel so bad for him, because it has to be uncomfortable. I’ve been pricing the potty porch and other indoor dog restrooms and I am so glad that I found this site. I think that $150 is too much to spend for an item that won’t work.
Does any know of any indorr potty restroom that works and is not an arm and a leg? This will not be a regular use for him, but will be used for htose rainy cold days.
Thanks.
I ordered the Potty Patch two months ago! It finally came today. I was so disappointed! What a cheap piece of junk, not to mention unsafe! Pieces of grass fell out and on my floor when I took it out of the box. Also, the grass was so fake! The grass does not look anything like the grass on their website! The grass is supposed to stay on the base by having sharp blades dig into the cloth backing of the grass. Well, it doesn’t work!! Also, I would be scared to even let my puppy us this piece of junk! If she stepped on the sharp blades she would cut herself! I don’t even know how this unit is allowed to be sold in the USA. It is a piece of junk and more importantly, it is NOT SAFE! When you go to their website look closely at the gray part that is suppose to hold the grass is place. It is nothing but SHARP needles! I am sending mine back tomorrow and looking for another box that won’t harm my puppy! The company needs to be reported for selling such an unsafe product. Does anyone have any ideas as to who I can report this to? A government agency? BTW My friend recommended A new Dog litter box called Rascal Dog Litter Box and she is very very pleased with it and the Grass comes already scented to help dogs use as you take it out the box, She says the Box is a God send for her and I am going to order mine today and they have same day shipping not like the Potty Patch which took 8 weeks to come.
I will keep you posted about my progress soon.
Regards
TIM
Just got my blog up and running (pheeew, finally!)… so, under General, I have posted a THANK YOU to Doggies.com (with a link) for this blog… PLUS an explanation of how I created a Potty Pan for my 12 pound male Shih Tzu. Here’s the URL to my posting: http://trishparr.com/2009/10/potty-pan-for-dogs/
Thanks for the link, Trish! And good luck with your blog.
Thank you to all of you for your post.. Actually I also ordered the Potty Patch and after 6 weeks, I emailed them and it was back and forth for another week. Then I recieved a post card that it was on its way, and nothing. So of course like a week ago I recieved an e-mail that they needed my credit card number again to ship it (they never charged me) so I didnt even respond. Its ridiculous how long it takes and now after reading these post I will try something different.
Ok…after hearing all the terrible reviews here on the Potty Patch, I have decided that based on the bad customer service, it’s not worth all the hassle.
However I came across a different product called the PetZoom Pet Park that appears to do the same thing. Has anyone tried this? It’s not a matter of being a bad dog owner…my dog has incontinence issues as she is a bit old and me and my roommate are gone all day long from 9-10 hours a day…
If anyone has seen or tried this other product, please let us know the results…
I am quite impressed with the shipping. I ordered it on Wednesday night and it arrived Friday morning (today). It looks pretty much like it does on the TV commercial. We’ll see if it works….
I am super satisfied with this product!
I bought the “Potty Patch” yesterday at Pet Co for $50 bucks, I live in an apartment so I placed it on the patio and my little dog has peed on it twice now…i just pointed to it and said “go pee pee”, he still poos on the cement outside!
The reason why i purchased it is because i needed something to absorbs his pee because otherwise he creates a puddle and steps in. I find this easier to clean than hosing off the patio everyday!
Well, the saga goes on. I wish that I had read this website first. I too am waiting for the Potty Patch. I tried to track it and it was backordered and now it says it will be delivered on 10/30/09. It isn’t here yet and I am starting to think it isn’t coming. I have an older dog that is having trouble going out and I thought that this would be helpful to him. I will let you know if I get it. I will be contacting the B.B.B. as well if I don’t!
To all of you that have ordered the “Potty Patch” and have gotten royally burned (not only by the product itself, but the poor customer service too – check them out with the BBB)……………….Take heart! There IS another product that is SUPERIOR in quality and customer service! The company is
http://www.rascaldoglitterbox.com
Remember the old adage………”you get what you pay for?” While this product costs a bit more, it is superior to the referrenced Potty Patch. I ordered one for a friend’s Yorkie and the puppy was trained in no time flat! It’s easy to use, well constructed and works like a charm! Please also note the numerous testimonials on the product.
MEdwards
Something else of GREAT importance I failed to mention in my earlier comments about the “Potty Patch”…………….it’s DANGEROUS! Check out the sharp HARD plastic spikes the underliner consists of. Surely NOT inviting to one’s tender puppy paws.

I too ordered the potty patch using the telephone number on the tv. After they got my card number They tried to sell me everything – I kept saying no to all ,and finally said all I wanted is what was advertised. Finally I hung up on them. Then a week ago I got a package in the mail. The only thing I ordered was the potty patch. Well I have a feeling the company that sent me this package got my card number from potty patch . What I got was from a company I never heard of saying this was my trial offer for a smoke -52 ???
All it had was a web site smoke51.com. I emailed them several times with no response. Then I checked my charges on my credit card and found three within two days. One for $9.95, a second for $29.95 and a third for $89.95. All these were after I emailed this company telling them I wanted to see proof of this order from me and that I was going to contact my card company. I am a widow on a limited income and I am very upset over this problem. The telephone nos. seem to be bogus. Has this happened to anyone else??
Hello, well all what I have to said is this, I not satisfied with you guy’s because when I order an potty patch, someone send me a email, saying that I going to get it on 12/20/09, so when this date come up the product never show up , when I trake the order the customer status said that it going to arrive on 10/28/09, and nothing happen , so today I check today and thew same company now said it going to be at home by 11/11/09. WHAT’S GOING ON DID YOU GUY’S DON’T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS OR SOMEBODY JUST IS LAIN TO ME ,THAT IS NOT FEAR.
thank you for your time.
Alfredo
I have purchased Potty Patch at PETCO. and so far i am very pleased with it. it is simple to clean and you dont need to train your dog how to use it. im not sure what is the whole conflict with ppl being scammed. i have personnally went to their website and they do have a customer service number and is 1866-518-2294
and last if you see the commercial it says the urine passes right through the 2nd tier and it does have anti microbial for urine smells and it does also say it has some sort of smell that would attract the dog to urinate into the potty patch. i am very very pleased with my potty patch and i recommend it to everyone!!!!
Well, I finally recevied my Potty Patch after waiting 2 months to receive the product. What a piece of junk. Is not worth the box that it was sent it! I finally thought that I had a solution to my male Yorkie’s potty needs. I don’[t know what I was thinking???? He was peeing off of the edges of pee pee pads and they were costing me a fortune! I don’[t know why I didn’[t think he would pee off the edge of this piece of grass, but that is what has happened. The box needs sides………..this is not different that a pee pee pad. I am still cleaning up pee off of the floor and now I will have to wash a piece of grass??? No thanks! I am hoping that I get my money back……..Don’t waste yours. Also, I have seen on this blog that Petco is carrying the box. Buyer beware………..If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is! Ask if you can open the bax and look at the product. The grass is so fake and the hole thing is a piece of junk probably from China. Ever see a cat litter box without sides? I don’[t think that dogs are much different. I am going to search for a dog litter box with sides or make my own………somehow…..I will find a solution. Nicole
Nicole! PLEASE read my post dated November 2. There IS a wonderful dog litter box. It’s called Rascal Dog Litter Box.com
Check it out! Our little Yorkie took to it almost immediately! ALSO, it’s extremely well made, easy to clean (you can wash the grass in the washing machine
in a pillow case) AND it doesn’t STINK to high heaven either!
I couldn’t help but notice all the comments on this particular subject!
While a few people have been satisfied with thier “Potty Patch” purchase, why is it you suppose that the negative comments continue to come in at this rate?
For those of you who are REALLY interested, read the entire blog on this very subject!
I have an elderly cat, & he’s on his last days, I think, that still wants the run of the house, but has problems sometimes making it upstairs to his box. He took to it right away. I don’t know about letting a gallon of urine sitting there, though. The wife is a clean freak, so it’s washed almost every time he uses it. He’s only dropped a deuce once on it & the wife went nuts, so that was the last time he did that. I know this is a dog site, so I’ll be waiting for the cat bashing comments, but dogs are supposed to be smarter than cats, so it should work even better for a dog, unless he took the short bus to obedience school
I’m a dog trainer and it is just natural for me to want to have my dog go outside. I do adjust my schedule to work in relieving periods for my dogs because I have worked so hard with them that I do not want the good training to go out the door by then learning indoor relieving is okay. There are times an indoor potty may be helpful in those situations you can’t control: wrecks, traffic, etc. One thing I haven’t been about to find on this Potty Patch is info on #2. Last time I checked, all dogs still poop. Usually that is not liquid and cannot be absorbed in to faux grass. Maybe I missed this? If someone can come up with an awesome way to teach a dog to use the toilet and have them flush, I would be greatly interested. Otherwise, I’ll stick to the old fashioned method of outdoor use for the dogs.
i know dogs need to get out and exercise. im all for that but im a student who works and lives in a condo in colorado.. yeah i really thought this one out. lol its too cold to have him outside while im gone in the winter so i keep him in the house. hes really good about holding it but if im gone for 6+ hours at a time i can understand if he has a slip up. im considering some form of potty patch. dont want to pay a fortune but i want something that works. hes a male english bulldog. love of my lifee!!! help?
Mandie! Seriously, the Rascal Dog Litter Box is $69.99. It’s worth every penney and more! Once you see the construction AND the clean ability of the grass,
you’ll be sold. http://www.rascaldoglitterbox.com
Good luck!
Mara
it looks great but i have an ENGLISH BULLDOG who is way over the 25lbs limit. he wont fit in that small box…
Mandie, contact http://www.rascaldoglitter.com. They will be coming out with not only a larger version of their dog litter box, but a smaller one too.
I too ordered this back in August. My dog is elderly and handicapped and just can’t make it through the night.
First it said it was being shipped. Then I got an e-mail saying it was delayed. Then I got a postcard saying it would be shipped in October, then in November. I’ve been charged twice. Got a postcard last week that says “if WE don’t hear from you by November 24….” . I tried e-mail, couldn’t find a phone # but finally found one here so I’m calling them NOW!
And the ad runs almost hourly! What a rip-off. I’m going to report them to the better business bureau in Texas too.
Tally
Oh, and there was no mention of price for the large one but I certainly didn’t expect it to cost 3 times as much! And those stupid ads you couldn’t get through….AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!
Tally
Does anyone have a contact number for this company Potty Patch/ I bought it and haven’t even opened it yet, and want to return it.
Carol, if you go back and read through this entire BLOG, you’ll find the numbers listed. DO NOT OPEN the box as someone else wrote (in this very blog) that the company will not take the product back IF it’s been opened. The number(s) will be listed but be warned, (acording to other customer posts) you’ll have a heck of a time getting through.
Please let us know via this site as to what happens! I can NOT get over this company!
I have been curious about these products…luckily I came across this blog site before purchasing anything….I always do complete research before purchasing anything to find the best product, best price, & all the negatives….& the positives hopefully…lol.
I have been using the pan’s that are from the bottom of the puppy pens that are not being used for my dogs & line them with the puppy pads……they are about 36″ x 18″. The problem I find is that my eskies walk while they pee…….& they walk right out of the pan & their pee goes from the pan onto the floor as they walk or they hit the edge & the pee runs under the pan. I don’t see how anything like the potty patch or other similar products might be any different…..any thoughts would be great. Of course, there is still the male problem…..with the hiked leg, Once in awhile, he is willing to hike his leg in the pan & hit the pad (after I make him feel guilty about peeing on the doorway.
I try to get my dogs outside, but one female that I let outside for an hour & she doesn’t go potty until she gets inside, 2 of my other females go about every 30 minutes &…..gggrrrrrr!
Unfortunately, not all my eskies get along together, so I have 3 puppy pens for the other 3 to hang out in. It works great for my female….as she can potty through the grating in the pen…..but the males hike their legs even in the pen’s…..so I wrap them with old hospital blankets to keep the pee from spraying outside the pen. With 6 dogs that tend to fight with each other, it is difficult to find the time to constantly let them out to potty…I would be doing nothing but putting dogs in & out all day & get nothing done……so there are many times where I do need something like this product…..especially for the 3 dogs that I do not have in puppy pens…..they hang out in my upstairs bedroom & hall…..they are the ones I have the problem with overwalking the tray I have set up for them. One of them is also a male who hikes his leg….also have a female that hikes her leg also…..guess she grew up around too many males teaching her what to do.
Maybe having higher sides on the tray would keep them from walking off the tray? I have been thinking about making something larger with the artificial turf to see if that might work better. Decisions, decisions…..are the worst….the worst is when they don’t end up working any better than what I already am using.
I have to be careful on my farm also as we have many coyotes around her…mostly in the evening….my house is fairly close to the road also, so I end up using a 20′ leash & tying them outside for several hours…..but cycling through that many dogs isn’t easy…….there has to be a better way…..which I was hoping to find with something like the potty patch…..right now, the pan’s are the easiest to clean also….even though the potty pad’s cost about .17 cents each….it adds up quickly.
I am open to any suggestions at this point.
I order my large Potty Patch on Oct 2nd and just received it yesterday on Nov 12th. I was worried so about 2 weeks ago I called their customer service number and they said the response to the product had been so good that they were on back order.
It was extremely easy to set up and within an hour my dog had already used it on the outdoor patio of my apartment. The only problem with it is that the grass (top layer) just sits on the top with no way to secure it down and when my dog (who is 60 pounds) walk on it, it shifts a bit. The should be a top “frame” to hold all the layers in place. I guess I’ll had to build one.
Beware of the webiste Pet Zoom – Pet Park they are the website that gives you no comfirmation at all. After you submit your order, the screen does not change, it goes back to the top of the page asking if you want to order. So you believe your order was not completed and when I called the next morning, supposedly both units had already been shipped. They had no idea why the website gives no type of confirmation, but this seems to have been going on for sometime.
I ordered a potty patch as I have three small dogs and thought this might be the solution with winter coming and finding a solution to them going outside in the snow.
I am very disappointed. I was told it would arrive on Nov 6th. I called the customer service # and was told it had been shipped Nov 12th on Thursday. I waited and when I had not received it by Tuesday Nov 17th , I called again and was told it was on back order. I have been lied to by these people. They should not be allowed to advertise their products on TV.
i would strongly advise against purchasing anything from this company.
You can add me to the list of disgruntled customers. I also wish I had come across this blog before placing my order. I ordered the Potty Patch on Oct. 6th and kept tracking my order through their tracking site. On the day it was supposed to arrive, the site said it was on back order. The new arrival date was Nov. 19th, but I just called and again, it’s on back order. I don’t know how the company can continue to tell people they are shipping the product, then tell them it’s on back order. My new target date for the product to be shipped, not delivered, is November 25th. Maybe that’s why their website says allow 6-8 weeks for delivery!
I ordered the potty patch last July just to have an ‘emergency place’ on my apartment patio. I did speak to a customer service agent on the phone because my order was accidently confirmed twice (maybe I clicked submit twice??). Anyway, to their credit she was very helpful. However, like many of you I kept recieving post cards about my delivery date being pushed back. The last actual date I was told was in mid-October… after being ordered in July???! Then I got a card that again pushed my order back, basically stating that no shipping date can be predicted. By now I’ve moved and my apt is on the first floor, rather than up several flights of stairs. I sent the card back with the ‘cancel my order’ box checked and just saw the refund on my credit card statement. Although the experience was largely unsatisfying, I just wanted to let everyone know that they do refund without a fuss.
However, after ordering on their website they did sell my info to several telemarketers…. get on that National Do Not Call Registry!
I also like others waited two months to get what I consider a complete scam. This item is nothing more then some plastic grass and a tray that one of my dogs chews on and the other sleeps on.
I have three dogs none of them even consider using it. It is companies like Potty Patch that really make you think before ordering something new online. It is a shame that they are allowed to sell such a useless item and make a pretty penny off consumers.
They should be shut down and made to refund every penny they made off consumers.
Bill, sorry you got duped. I am flabergasted at the number of complaints that continue to come in on “Potty Patch”. They are currently FEATURED on the front cover of Harriet Carter! Of interesting note…………….the “Potty Patch” is sanctioned by AKC (American Kennel Club). Just goes to show you what any organization will do for money!
Don’t give up on the idea of the dog litter box. The company you need to look at is http://www.Rascallitterbox.com I have now ordered TWO and they are a God send! And customer service? Like none I’ve seen in quite a time! EXCELLENT.
Give them a try.
Good luck,
Mara
+1 on the “almost bought until I found this site”
Quick trip to the hardware store should do the trick.
Thank you all for your posts. I ordered a potty patch for my daughter’s small dog on 10/12. Each time I check the status on www customer status.com, I find that the date of the “back order” is moved up by 5 days. Today I am sending a cancelation email. My concern is that they have my charge information. I was also disappointed because I found it on a friendly link at Amazon.com. Hopefully I can cancel and nothing else will come of this.
Thank you all so very much. I was on the Potty Patch website and was filling in my credit card number when I decided I had better check testimonials on this product. Wow! Did you all save me from making a big mistake. Thanks for all the suggestions and other product names. A reputable company would have contacted at least one of you by now,; therefore I am led to assume this company is a scam. Thanks for exposing them.
Even if you can get it, don’t waste your money. We just bought this product at Petco. The biggest probelm is it doesn’t stay together. Even when our 4 lb puppy steps on the “grass”, the grass and grate slide right off the bottom part of the tray. I tried turning the grate over so the spikes on the grate faced down. This seemed to hold the grate in place a little better so it didn’t slide off the bottom tray. However, when I put the grass on top without the spikes holding it in place, it slid all over the place. Even if we gently place our puppy on the grass, the littlest movement causes it to shift and move & our puppy is afraid of this. You can’t pee if you are concentrating on just keeping your balance. This is going back to Petco tomorrow.
I agree with you Sandee! Waht a piece of junk that POTTY PATCH is and dangerous too!! What were they thinking when they made this? All those sharp points under the grass! I didn’t have give my puppy a chance to jump on it and posssibly have an accident where he would puncture his delicate pad paws! Not only is it not safe, but the grass does not stay in place! Mine is going back to Petco tomorrow too! I will look for another dog litter box company as I really want my little boy trained. Also, I wasn’t even thinking when I bought this……….he will pee right off the edge of the grass once he starts lifting his leg….I guess that is why cat litter boxes ARE A BOX and not just a pad!!!
Don’t waste your money on this worthless product!
the woman who answers the phone at the showcase does not want to give the name of the people who is distribuiting the potty patch. First, she said that she is the supervisor, then she says she is the manager. well, we all know that is a lie. what are they hiring?
Sandee, and Ashley, may I suggest you consider a company I have found to be
perfect in every respect! The company is called http://www.rascaldoglitterbox.com
Go to the website, call the owner for any help or questions about training, etc.
Great company doing business with, superior quality and customer satisfaction. I highly recommend them to everyone!

Petco sells the Potty Patch, both sizes, in the store. Better to buy it in person than risk ordering from the website. It’s $49 for the small and $79 for the large, which is think is about 10 bucks more than the online price.
Ha! Better to buy the potty patch in person? As several bloggers just said…….
“It’s a piece of junk, not to mention dangerous!” Folks, even Petco has gotten duped. Obviously, they didn’t check out the “quality & functionality” of the product.
I thought it would be the perfect solution to my rebellious dachshund. She finally started using it when I put it in her night time kennel. So it definitely is a great idea, but like the others say, it is a horrible design. I cant believe they are able to sell this thing for $50, it probably cost $5 to build, if that. I am currently trying to design and market a better potty patch because as I said, it is a great idea but design is completely useless!
Leigh, before you go to the expense of “re-designing” the Potty Patch, thought you’d want to know there already IS a “Perfect Dog Litter Box.” It is manufactured and sold by http://www.RascalDogLitterBox.com
Rascal Dog Litter Box is superior in it’s quality and I believe the company captured all the necessary features that makes it pretty perfect as is. You are absolutely right in stating that a dog litter box is a great idea. Unfortunately,
the Potty Patch is turning many consumers sour on the idea. Please check out the company I mentioned. I have purchased two and they have worked out beautifully for our dogs. Oh yes, Rascal Dog Litter Box just introduced a new size and will be adding another in the very near future. Says something for the company.
I saw this advertised on TV & I like the idea. PETCO has it on their site .. I’m going to check the store. I never buy certain things online . PETCO I would feel safe with .. but would rther buy it in the store .. easier to take back.
OMG. I am sooo annoyed. I just bought the dang thing (prob about 4 times since I had to click the submit button that much) and then read these reviews. Im gonna call the 866 number to try to cancel it right away
Where is the moderator? Why is this “Rascal Dog Litter Box” person allowed to SPAM this section so much?
As for pet pads/trays… Amazon.com sells several, including the “Potty Patch” and that “Rascal” one. Check the reviews over there. IRIS sells a potty tray for $19.99 (medium size) and you can get the disposable pads for around $7 for 25 of them, maybe less if you shop locally. They’re also free shipping eligible. The IRIS product has 70 reviews with a 4/5 star rating.
It does pay to shop around and read reviews. I’m not saying the IRIS products are for everyone — just one of many affordable options that will work just as well (and sometimes better) than these $50+ ripoffs.
I just bought one….in a store here in Canada..
i have two cockapoos..and when we leave the house..they both get uptight and will pee on the front entrance floor…..
i read all the testimonies above and mine doesn’t slip…it stays together….
and the sharp prongs are covered with the thick grass….so the dogs can’t feel it….not sure why these people’s potty patches are slipping
i have even layed a potty training pad…at the bottom of the plastic..and when my dogs go in there..i take out the plastic pad and throw it into the garbage
it does have a smell….but when not needed in use i put it into the laundry room or outside if not snowing or raining
and when outside ..my dogs will go in there and not on the ground…
well worth it….and all you negative response people…give it a try
I saw the Potty Patch ad on tv last night, and loved the idea, but won’t order one after reading the messages on this site. I will make a potty patch of my own though; sod and a tray to lay it in. I have 3 small dogs (one has been with me for 10 years, the other 2 are rescued dogs who have been members of the family for over a year now) … anyway, one of the 2 rescued dogs barks the entire time I’m at work, and his barking causes the other dogs to bark as well. Most of the time I take all 3 dogs to work with me, but when I can’t take them along, I have to lock their doggie door so they can’t go outside and bark for hours … a neighbor has complained, and I don’t blame him, I just didn’t know it was happening, until he said something. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep the dogs, the neighbors and myself, happy, and as stress free as possible … a potty patch it is then! I’ll let you folks know how it works out for the dogs! Thank you for your information, it has saved me the frustration of ordering something that may never be delivered! I’ll also let you know what my own potty patch cost is, compared to the tv ad price! Happy New Year to all!
I’m glad I found this webiste also before ordering. You all can call your credit cards up and file a complaint even after they’ve charged the money. The credit card co. will make it their responsibility to straighten it out for you, or you get your money back. It’s called fraud.
I own a potty patch and love it. My little dog will not go out in the rain…..here in the NW that is a real problem. So this has been the answer of my dreams! But now the grass is smelly and as much as I clean it…it still smells like urine. I have tried to find the proper way of cleaning but can not find any answers. It is easy to clean the bottom to layers…..but to rinse the grass with soap and water in my shower? Gross!!!! I have done it….it takes forever to dry. But if you only clean the bottom 2 layers then the top still stinks. HELP!!!!!!
I bought POTTY PATCH too, but after two weeks it smelled so bad and the grass was falling out, I had to throw it away. It was too messy to clean in the shower and it never really got clean. The grass seems really cheap. I would not buy this product again. Live and learn!
thanks Tim for your response……but there must be a way to clean the grass. I found on site that said to put it in a pillow case with baking soda and wash it in the washer. I have not tried this since I am afraid of harming my washer or my expensive fake grass! Any ideas anyone????? I also heard that it is dishwasher safe…but I am our dishwasher!
Another question……is real sod better? how often does it need to be replaced if so? Thanks!
i agree about the washing of the grass…..I would love it if i could put it into the washer..and if i do this.could i add a bit of bleach to to
WHAT ABOUT POO? IF THE DOG IS STUCK INSIDE A LONG TIME, THEY ARE GONNA HAVE TO DO BOTH. POINTLESS AND STUPID PRODUCT, END OF SUBJECT. DOGS AREN’T CATS AND SHOULDN’T BE TREATED AS SUCH. CATS NATURALLY USE THE LITTER BOX FROM BIRTH, DOGS DON’T FOR A REASON… SORRY FOR THE CAPS, MY KEYBOARD IS JAMMED
well not end of subject……and i have many animals and they all can be trained to go in a litter box…Not just cats!!!!!
Debbie Cook, can you tell me where in Canada you purchased the Potty Patch from. If you can supply me with the name and number that would be great. I have been having a tough time trying to locate a place to purchase it.
thanks so much!!!
i live in winnipegand we have a store at polo park shopping center called as seen on tv showcase..I found it there
hope this helps
i have two dogs..and they both use this producti actually put a training pad at the bottom of the product to makr it easier to remove the pee without having to wash it.
I finally got my potty patch from Petco.com. It is a lot cheaper than those other options and it serves its purpose on my porch. My dachshund likes it just fine and I haven’t seen the turf slip. I line the bottom with potty training pads for easy clean up. Perfect for those days I’m away from home.
My potty patch arrived last week and it is a life saver! My apartment is on the 4th floor and I got so sick and tired of having to take my dog out every 6hours or so. The worst part was taking him out late at night before I was going to bed. I have a 2 year old chihuaua and he would not go on the paper pads he would only go on the grass!! So, when I saw this add for the potty patch I was desperate and had to try it. I put the potty patch on my covered patio because I do not want to teach my dog that it is ok to go inside! One day I was cleaning up and left the patio door open, my dog sniffed around and BOOM he went potty on the patch!! AMAZing!! From that day on I always use positive reinforcement and a treat and he has gone #1 and #2 on that patch, it is truly incredible! It is really easy to clean and because I leave it outside in the patio there is no smell. I encourage anybody who hates walking their dog out in the rain or if you live on the top floor of your building to run out and get one ASAP
My little dog was scared of the Potty Patch. IT is not stable and the whole unit shifts. I placed him on the grass and he did use it, however he peed right onto the wall. The Potty Patch is not good for male dogs, maybe females but my male urinated right off the edge. This was the problem that I had with piddle pads, I thought that the Potty Patch would solve it, but it did not. The grass slides all over the top layer and the grass seems really cheap. Not a great product especailly if you have a male dog.
I have a litter of puppies 9 golden puppies and am wondering how this would work for these little puppies. I guess pee is the big concern with cleanup – poos pretty easy. I’m curious – has anyone used this for new litter of puppies?
After reading these blogs though, I’ll be making my own – thank you.
i am not sure if there is varieties of the same product out there..but mine is so secure that the grass does not move…..and around the edges of the grass there is some fraying..but it states this in the directions..and it goes away..
my grass feels like real grass.and is not cheap…..i just washed mine yesterday…put it into the tub..spryed it down with bathroom bleach cleaner…then rinsed it..and the smell of pee went away…didn’t even wreck the grass..
and I have a male and female dog and both go onto it fine..must be issues with certain dogs..not liking it
I line it with a dog training pad..making it easier to pull it out and throw it into the garbage.but each to their own…..

Meena, Not so good for girl dogs either. Unless you are training them to be olympic surfers or skateboarders. Like you said, we (me & Cricket) found the whole thing unstable. The grass kept shifting & sliding. If I couldn’t even coax her up there with sweet talk & treats, there was no way she was going to get up on that thing and go potty on her own.
Just washed (in a pillow case) added bleach and then tumbled dry. took 1 hour and it worked great!!!!!! The grass is in the same condition and the smell is all gone!!!! I use potty pads for the bottom layer which I change daily and will now wash and dry the grass once a week or as needed. No slipping and my dog loves it!!!!!
I got mine from petco….it may be different….it’s the as seen on tv version. I and my dog love it. It was the top layer(grass) that I could not figure out….but it works to wash in a pillow case….tie it shut so the grass part does not fall out and add bleach….delicate cycle and then tumble dry (still in pillow case). It took about an hour all around and all I did is lay a potty pad on the tray which in that hour was never needed. I think my prayers were ansewered. Hope this helps others!!!
thanx Mom of sam sam…I’m going to try the pillow case tomorrow……
I love my potty patch also
I was so excited when I saw the Potty Patch at Petco! Thought that I had found a solution to purchasing piddle pads……………I was really disappointed when I unpacked the unit. My yorkie- poo Skipper seemed interested in it and I thought, okay great this might work. He jumped up on it and the unit slid apart. It is very poorly designed and does not stay together. It shifts way too much. It is just a piece of grass that sits on a base that is not secure. Skipper will not go near it again. Save your time and money. Mine is going back to Petco tomorrow. Wish that I would have seen this blog first.
Can your dog poo on it too?
can my dog poo on it too?
I was skeptical but bought one. I was getting an 8 week old English Bulldog and our cold North Iowa weather was just starting, I received the small Potty Patch after I had the pup 2 weeks, so he was 10 weeks when he was introduced to it. Basically he seen something new on the floor and he had to check it out, that is all we did. He took to it like a duck to water. I can see where it might be a problem come spring to get him out of the habbit of going in the house but I am hoping that he takes to real grass as easily. Only problem I see so far is that every time he leaves the grass, the second tier comes off the base. The company was very slow in delivering, was about to cancel the order when it arrived.
I just went out and bought the large potty patch at I believe petco and I brought it home and set it up. I was basically just two of the small patchs that you hook into one. So anyway, I put it together and my dog went to it right away, not to use the bathroom but to chew it to shreds. My dogs is fully trained and normally does not behave like this. I wonder if I can take it back and tell them it’s a joke. I guess I will just go back to the potty pads that i used to use they worked so much better than this.
I just went out and bought the pottypatch at I believe petco and I got the large one because the small one seemed too small. Anyways, I have a Italian Greyhound and shes about 4 now and shes a well trained dogs. She never misbehaves. So anyway, I got home and I put it together it was just basically two of the smaller ones that you had to put together. Well I put it together and she immediately went to it but not to urinate to chew it up. I don’t know what the use for the scent or whatever but she did not like it. I wonder if I can take it back to the store and tell them that its a rip off. I guess I will just go back to using puppy pads they worked alot better than this.
my dog is a chihuahua and is a little over a year old. She loves the grass out side and now also loves the grass on the potty patch. It took about a week to fully train her and ever since she has not had an accident in the house. To start the training I placed the potty pads (which she was used to) on top of the grass so that she recognized the area…….then eventually removed the pad and gave her treats when she used the potty patch. Now that I found out (and have done) that you can clean the grass in the washer and dryer (in a closed pillow case) it is the best ever!!!! Yes I do still take Sam Sam outside for her walks and she will use the grass just fine. This is a sollution for when I am working and also in the evenings when it is not so easy for me to go outside. I wish the potty patch came with better instructions….but other then that I LOVE IT and so does Sam Sam!!!!!!
and yes your dog can poo on it too!!!! Just pick it up with tissue and flush it down the toilet!!!!
Just wanted to let everyone know that the Potty Patch can be purchased at Petco stores. This way you do not have to give your credit card number out and it avoids the risk of being scammed. Good Luck Everyone!!!!!
were very unhappy as the grass was so cheap and that your female peed of the side of it. Imagine what a male would do. Also, the unit slides all over the place and your little poodle won’t go near it again. You are going to try to take yours back too as you are very dissappointed.
thanks so much for the info on your blog concerning the ‘potty patch’.
Considering the difficulties ordering the product via phone or email
I’ve decided to troll the local pet stores and buy without the hassle.
May be I will pay a little more but avoiding the problems justifiy the
decision.
My husband is making one for me using a giant drip pan from AutoZone. The pan is about 2 feet by 4 feet. Two pee pads will fit in the bottom and will be perfect for my elderly dog who can’t hold it all night long anymore.
DO NOT PURCHASE THE POTTY PATCH!!!! I never talked to a person on the phone- only an automatic service. I entered my credit card and then tried to do the upgrade offer. When it wouldn’t work and I continued to get frustrated, I tried to cancel. I didn’t ever get an option to do so- therefore discontinued my order and hung up. Needless to say, the potty patch arrived and my card was billed. There is no return address, phone number nor a refund offer or guarantee! I am not stuck with a cheap piece of carpet that I cannot get rid of! My dog doesn’t even go near it!
I think this whole thing was a scam and I got pulled in on it! DO NOT DO THE SAME!
I ordered the potty patch on Nov 28, 2009, I didn’t rceive my confirmation e-mail in two days as indicated. So I called the 800 number on the confirm that I printed for my records. So I waited for one week before calling. They told me that it will I will receive the Potty Patch Dec. 15, 2009. Nothing came so I waited another 5 days since it was doing the Holiday Season. So I called again and was told that I would not get the product until after X-mas. Well Jan 15, 2010 I did receive the Potty Patch but my puppy is not going towards it so in the pamplet that came along with the item, it had a section called Frequently Asked Questions: The one that I was intrested in was, My dog is not always attracted to the Potty Patch. What can I do? So I continued to read the info. It stated that you can treat the grass with a pheromone spay. And for more details go to the website http://www.pottypatch.com. But all the website is about purchasing the item….. For any one out there who has not received your Potty Patch, on the packaging I have an RETURN ADDRESS: I don’t know if It is legate but I’m willing to put it out there for my fellow PET LOVERS…ATCH 400 RETURNS ROAD
To finish my info to you all The Address again is POTTY PATCH 400 RETURNS ROAD WALLINGTON, CT 06494. GOOD LUCK

I bought the potty patch at Petco. when I got my teacup chihuahua at Christmas we had 18 inches of snow on the ground and he couldnt go outside. He went to the potty patch with no problems and has never had an accident on the floor. I love the potty patch for those cold and rainy days and recomend it to anyone with a small dog. I also use potty training pads under the 2nd piece so it helps soak up the urine and keeps the smell down.
After reading all these blogs I decided to look into making one for myself. i don’t do things half way so I searched out the best materials. It turns out that a minimum quantity is 14 and I don’t need that many. And the cost each works out to about $100. No markup here, I just want three for myself. Here are the particulars:
20″ X 16″ X 3″ plastic box (3/16″ wall thickness) from US Plastics
20″ X 16″ fiberglass grate cut from a 4′ X 8′ sheet
20″ x 16″ artificial turf for dogs
If interested, I’m selling 11 of the 14. Contact me at 650-269-1375 or email me at .
and the price includes 2 patches of artificial turf.
email me at
morris at chubb dot cc and I’ll send you the URLs for the materials I’ll be using.
Well, I was very upset when I first posted back on hhe 22nd about this purchase.
Today I finally found the e-mail with an actual amount I will be charged (relief!) since I’ve been watching my bank accounts carefully and fear unanticipated charges. I, too, kept getting prodded to buy other things and carefully avoided
accepting any.
I am going to Petco today to purchase a small one for the RV trip as after reading all the blogs, I can be sure of one thing… mine will not arrive in time for the trip.
I wish I had read first the blogs-I could have avoided all the anxiety and wasted time and saved some money by just going to the PETCO.
I am sure the product will work well enough for what I need it for…..however,
I want to state that I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT ANYTHING BEFORE ONLINE
WHERE THEY DO NOT GIVE YOU YOUR TOTAL UP FRONT BEFORE–
YOU CLICK AN ACCEPTANCE/PAY OPTION. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
LESSON LEARNED IN FLORIDA

braided rug runner…
Merely want to say your post is impressive. The clearness in your post is quite impressive and I can assume you area an expert on this field….
I ordered and had not heard anything. After reading these blogs, I called the customer service number. They offered a website for tracking your shipment/status.
http://www.customerstatus.com
I plugged in my info and found my order status right away. My suggestion would be to check this site for your orders. If you do not find it, contact the authorities and cancel your credit card.
By the way, I ordered by phone via the TV commercial. Avoid internet orders to be on the safe side.
A Lot of you people are not getting the real IDEA of this product. Some people live in apartments and don’t have the luxury of putting their dog outside whenever they want. Some people also WORK which limits the amount of time they can take their pet outside. So having this inside does not enable them to go anywhere inside it enables them to go anywhere with GRASS. Hence having the grass instead of just a mat so go on. SIGH

SIGH And maybe you should think before you buy, they do sell this product in PETCO and they also sell it on Amazon which is a very trustworthy site.
I belive that the breed of dog and the owner personailty have more to do with training, then any thing else.
As an owner & past breeder of Aussies, I find it totaly discusting that you use the most trainable dog to further your ads.
Just because the blue merle aussie pup is the most beutiful puppy there is no reason to deplect as a dog with a poddy training problem.
You are not the frist company to expliot the Aussie for profit, with out knowing the breed
I am sorry that to futher your profits of your company with out any one in your ad dept. Really knowing the the love that an Aussie has
After reading all of the concerns on this board, I decided to call the company and cancel my order. What is amazing to me is that they told me they COULD NOT cancel my order! I’m not sure where these people are coming off telling me my order cannot be cancelled. I was very clear with them in letting them know that my credit card I used is being cancelled so that I do not run the risk of it being compromised, and I’ve disputed the charge on the front end with my card issuer with an explanation of what’s going on and they were more than happy to cancel my card and reissue a new one for me.
One more thing everyone should be aware of, I have my own e-mail domain and set a new address up specifically for this order. I do that for SPAM control just in case since I do not like being overloaded with unnecessary e-mail. That e-mail address is now being completely overwhelmed with a ton of SPAM trying to sell me every kind of prouct under the sun. When I was on the phone with the representative about my order, I brought this up and she did say that every e-mail address given to their company is put into a public pool and you will receive marketing e-mails from there forward. I’ve cancelled that e-mail address now as well so that they do not have ither a valid credit card or e-mail address on file for me any longer.
I’ve been shopping online for quite a long time and I know all the scams, games and shady marketing tactics all of these people use. If you do decide to purchase anything online from a company you are not sure about, ALWAYS use a credit card and NOT a debit card. Credit card charges are easier to dispute and money isn’t coming directly our of your personal checking account so the financial impact of any fraud can be much more contained and eaiser to recoup when a credit card is used. Especially if money is tight, you really don’t want to use a debit card for any questionable online purchase that could result in a real financial situation for a person if suddenly their bank account bets hit and drained – it’s happened to me and it is a pain to take care of it. It can be done, but it takes time and your money can stay tied up until an investigation is completed by your bank. Use a separate e-mail address other than your primary account for any online purchase, just in case of SPAM issues like you’re going to get with this company. You can block the domains entirely, but these people are slick and have literally thousands of domains and masked e-mail addresses with fictitious domains so the bottom line is you will never stop the SPAM from coming unless the e-mail address is cancelled altogether.
The bottom line is always be aware and be safe, you have to protect yourself from online fraud and identity theft. Buy local when you can or stick with reputable online retailers that you know are legitimate, and take precautions and just be smart about what you’re doing. Especially with the economy being the way it is, people are vunerable and scam artists are everywhere. Sooner or later even the most cautious person will be a victim of fraud of some kind, so it happens to even the best of use. Just take necessary precautions and it’ll help to minimize any potential impact on yourself.
My thought on this particular company is they are shady at best and cannot be trusted. I won’t be doing any further business with them.
[...] A dog’s indoor “potty patch” : Doggies.com Dog Blog [...]
Melisa has it right. I have a 12 year old pom with incontinance. I started working 13hrs days a little over 2yrs ago. Add to that an hour commute each way, and my little guy is home alone for 15hrs of the day, four days a week. Over the summer this is not an issue, because I can leave the valcony door open, and he’s ok with that. I’m on the 12th floor, so I don’t have to worry about anyone wondering in. But now over the winter he has to go indoor. If leave that door open, the poor little guy will just freeze. And before you say, what about a dog walker, you try trusting someone with your apartment keys in the bronx, and let me know how that works out.
This thread started out by discussing the Potty Patch & similar products. Do they work or not? I don’t think this thread should turn into a debate about if it is OK for your dog to potty inside. Whatever works for you is nobody elses business. In my case we got a 1 yr old Maltese several months ago. She came from a family who had 4 other Maltese. They were going to use her for breeding but changed their mind. (How I feel about amatuer breeders could take up a lot of space on another thread.) Anyway, with so many dogs, she was not properly house trained. I thoght the Potty Patch would be a good tool to use in ADDITION to pottying outdoors. Unfortunately, the Potty Patch turned out to be such a piece of cheap junk we returned it to Petco the day after we bought it. And I was afraid to order a similar but better made product because I wasn’t even sure Cricket would learn to use it and I didn’t want to be out the 50 or more dollars. So we are training her to go potty outside. However, she is still having accidents. So we have to keep her in her kennel all day while we are at work. I would not be opposed to her having an alternate place to go inside the house but I’m afaid trying to train her to go both indoors and outdoors will confuse her too much. Any thoughts on this?
THANK GOODNESS FOR BLOGS!! I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR THIS ITEM BUT HAVE CHANGED MY MIND WITHOUT A DOUBT!! THXX EVERYONE FOR YOUR HONESTY!!
Hi everyone so glad I read these post before purchasing. I currently use a PupHead indoor potty for my two Chihuahua’s one is only 2lbs and the vet does not want her out below 45 degrees and I live i maine so good luck with that. My dogs love their potty and never have an accident.
Like so many others, I am so glad that I came across this site before I actually ordered the Potty Patch. I think I will make my own!
Great blog!
We live on the second floor of our apartment building in a “green community” in southern CA. The complex has no grass but an artificial turf system for the doggie areas. For Christmas, we got a shih tzu puppy. I have had 2 other shih tzus and both were extremely challenging to potty train, with occasional accidents into their adulthood. This puppy had already started to paper train at her birth home and we used the puppy pee pads initially since the vet said to keep her away from public dog areas until her vaccinations were complete. She took to the pads pretty well with supervision and positive rewards, but the carpet under the pads would still take on the urine odor. She also did not pee on the pads when we moved them to our patio. We saw the Potty Patch at Petco for $50 and decided to try it to save money since it is the same cost as a large package of disposable puppy pee pads. Plus, we thought it would be a good way to get our dog used to using the artificial turf in the complex. Punkie took to the Potty Patch immediately and loves to pee and poo on it. She is only 12 weeks old and she will sit by the patio door when she needs to use it. The down side is that the patio door is our only fresh air source and when the sun shines on the patch and the door is open, the odor of urine blows in. If we washed it daily as the instructions suggest, this would not be an issue. We usually end up washing it every 3-7 days in the shower. It is not convenient and very smelly, but preferable to the carpet odors or having to take her out to the dog area every 2-3 hours ( I am 7 months pregnant and have a two year old). When she gets older and can hold her urine for longer periods, we will start to bring her outside to the dog area, but during this puppy time this product has been a huge convenience for us….no carpet cleaning or accidents since we got it. And I’m sure it will be essential after the birth of my baby! If anyone has any experience with more convenient ways to clean the unit besides using the shower (we don’t have an outdoor area for a hose), let me know!
Oh, and btw, I already read the comment about washing the turf in a pillow case in the washing machine….I’m a little hesitant about that because we have a brand new high efficiency washer that uses very little water…I wonder if something that saturated with pee will come clean? I may just need to buy some heavy duty rubber gloves and get used to the shower method.
I have had the Potty Patch for 2 days now, and have had our 8 week old Pom puppy for just as long. The reason I got it, is beacuse he just LOVES to pee on our living room rug. Well, I put the Potty Patch in the living room, and he went on it right away! The next morning, my wife said he got up, and went straight there to poop!!
Anyways, just love this thing for night time when we’re all sleeping. Great product. I bought mine at Canadian Tire in Canada, btw.
I have a phone number for the Potty Patch.

I had ordered it, but now will cancel it, due to
everyones comments
BEFORE YOU BUY and all those who have bought:
Ask what the LEAD CONTENT of the grass mats are.
A reputable, dog-caring company will tell you the results of an independent lab analysis of the synthetic grass.
If they don’t, wont’t or can’t. Don’t buy. And if you have a dog potty, you should call who you bought it from and ASK THAT QUESTION.
I saw that my local Walgreens is now selling them for $29.99 I think. It was right inside the front door. I walked by, realized what I saw did a double take & laughed. No way I’d purchase off tv, especially after what I’ve read here but I have 2 small dogs that go through spells of going in the house especially when we go through big changes like my husband being deployed. This could (maybe) help save our wood floors so I’d consider since I can buy it locally.
You can buy this product in stores and I feel like that is the only way people should be doing business now anways. Spend your money locally and know that you’re getting your product. My mom and her bf just bought this today and I was trying to find some reviews. I didn’t find this helpful whate soever
Oh My God! I have heard and seen it all now! Good grief get off your lazy duff’s and take the poor dog outside. Yuck! This is gross! The most ridiculous idea I have heard of! Who wants to clean a tray of dog pee up? Train the dog to go outside! Lazy people!
I purchsed this item from Walgreens. I live in an apt and thought this would be great since the neighbors don’t pick up after their dogs like they should. I put mine on the balcony and it worked like a charm. It has only been a week and he loves it.
To the people wanting the Potty Patch most of the local Petco Pet Stores now have it in stock. The price starts at $39.99.
Thank you
I don’t get why any one orders the “As Seen On TV” stuff to begin with! Every item ends up at Walgreens or CVS. Why pay all those extra costs??
I read through all of the reviews and plan to go ahead and buy one this morning, only for rainy days. I have a sunroom so I can just put it in there and I doubt I would need it more than a day or 2 at a time. For $40 I have nothing to lose and if I don’t like it, I can return it easy enough.
Seems no matter what there is out there and you google review…you will find a lot of negatives and a lot of positives, so as long as there is a return policy, and there ALWAYS is if you throw a big enough fit…then I say go for it. I sure am!
My Comment posted: “Trish on October 28th, 2009 1:40 pm” I had to move my posting… here’s the new permanent address: http://trishparr.com/potty-pan-for-dogs/
Thank you for your understanding and am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Elizabeth, it has nothing to do with laziness. I’m a single parent in an apartment that is not about to leave my baby unattended at night to take the dog out to pee. It’s a solution for people who don’t have yards, who work, who have older dogs that can’t hold it and other scenarios. Thanks for judging without asking any questions – that’s the ideal laziness.
i just bought the small potty patch at a local petco for 49.95 haven’t tried it yet but its now available in stores
I have a 4 month old Maltepoo Thor, and he uses the potty patch to pee and poop at night. Only at night though, during the day he goes outside like normal. It’s a great product if you have the paitence for training. Sometimes when it’s stormy outside he can’t go out doors and then he’ll go use the potty patch. Everyone morning I wake up and he has used it. It is by no means a substitute for actual potty training just a helpful tool for those times when going outside isn’t possible. I recommend it for small and young dogs. Thank you Potty Patch your a life saver!
Kachine
I have two of the indoor pet zoom potty pads and I did receive them rather quickly I just cant seem to get my chuihuia to use them he is scared of the grass what do I do
Hey Elizabeth Grey – I’m NOT lazy.. As a matter of fact it’s the opposite. I HAVE A JOB. Ever heard of that?? Or perhaps you are just a jobless bum?? Perhaps you have never heard of duel training your dog??
I have just purchased a puppy patch for my Chug and she is doing VERY well with it. She only uses it when she is left in a specific room while I’m gone at work. The rest of the time she does got out, so she did gravitate to this very quickly! It’s clean and has not confused her at all about going out. I recommend it for anyone wanting a solution for your baby during long periods, other then keeping shut in a small kennel all day!
Hey Zoe – My baby was a bit intimidated too when I first brought it home. I initially sat on the floor next to it and placed her gently on it. I quickly praised her and gave her a lot of love. After that, I left it in the area where I knew I would keep it and just “ignored” it. After about a day or so, she began to “explore” the area. Once I knew she wasn’t so afraid of it, I left her gated in the room with it while I worked a 1/2 day. To my surprise, when I came home she had used it!
Hope that helps…
BTW – My baby is 1/2 Chuihuia!
Thank God I Found this web site.. I was going to orde the product. But I looked strange.. so I search for review.
I did notice that the page didn’t have any contact info
and
It ask you inmediatly to put a credit card with out knowing what is the total cost. This was an alert for me.
also I say you can order it from Bath& beyond. So If you really ready want to order this prodect.. maybe you can do it here.
Thank you all !
I am so glad I read this info before I ordered. I was just filling out the info and I searched to see if I could find a cheaper one and I think I will try the sod idea. I have a little dog 3.1 lb choodle that tends to have accidents. How do you get the urine smell out of carpet? Sandi
I will be posting this horrible incident at my blog to warn more people about such an incident. I am glad to have found this information.

I went on AsSeenOnTv.com to look for PediPaws ($19.99) and saw the Potty Patch Ad. I was very excited to purchase as the weather where we live is crazy- from below freezing to severe thunderstorms. When I clicked on the Ad it opened up in a new window (red flag 1) and when I scrolled down to order, it immediately asked for my payment information without showing the price of the item (red flag 2). I was interested in the large size but the site did not list the price (red flag 3). I searched for reviews and came across doggies.com. I’m glad that I did!
I found Pedi Paws at Walgreens.com for half the price ($9.99) and it’s eligible for free shipping. It is also available in store. The Potty Patch is available at PETCO.com and is on sale for 20% off the regular price. What I’m gonna do is go to our local PETCO and see how it looks up close. If it looks good and is on sale in store, I’ll get it right away. But if not, I’ll purchase online.
Honu is a 10 week old purebred boxer puppy. I hope she likes it.
I bought the Rascal Dog Litter Box Little Squirt for my Yorkie! He took to it in a couple of days. I think it was the training spray that the company offers. I am very pleased with the product and the grass is machine washable. It costs about the same as Potty Patch. I like the sides on the box cuz it keeps him from hitting the walls. Very pleased with the product and would recommend it to anyone with little dogs. They have a bigger size coming out soon too. Not sure of the price – the company has not listed it yet. Looks like the box I ordered but in a tan color. Good Luck!
I’ve used the potty patch and also the larger Patio Potty, which both have the artificial grass. I started out my miniature dachshund on soil less sod since he was used to going on grass, and then got the artificial grass once he got the hang of it. I have to say, although there are exceptions, I don’t think most dogs are just going to use these products automatically–like, oh, hey, there’s the bathroom. You have to train them to use it.
Having said that, I really have problems with the artificial grass type dog potties. Having used two now, I can tell you that you will NOT want to keep them inside. I live in a condo and have the potty patch outside on my balcony and no matter how many times I’ve washed it, using Tide with bleach, anti-urine sprays, plus a few others, they STILL smell like urine. I use newspaper under mine with a waterproof pad under that, and you have to change the paper daily and wash the grass a lot. If you live in an apartment or condo, you need to be thinking about where you’re going to wash the grass, since you need a tub of some type or a place to take it to rinse out and clean.
Although I think it’s a bad idea to encourage your dog to go inside, I understand there are situations where that’s what you need to do. If so, I think you’d be best to just stick with potty pads and change them as needed, rather than using a potty patch-artificial grass type product.
I’ve recently ordered a new dog potty which is the same basis as the potty patch, but the top is a (paw comfortable) grill where they urine passes through to the paper below, so I think this will be easier to keep clean with better odor control, since the artificial grass on the dog potties hold the urine smell too much. I should receive it next week and am hoping it’s a better solution.
I want to safe anyone from buying the potty patch. It is a waste of money. You can buy a plastic lid and puppy pads and have the same thing. All my dogs did was bark at it.They never would even use it.My cat liked the grass part.I gave them to my mom.She has to put a puppy over top of it for them to even get her dogs to use them.I purchased two.It costed me 137.50.They are small. You still have to buy puppy pads. You would be better of going to Lowes and buying a storage unit and using the lid and putting the puppy pads on top of it.If you want buy some grass it will not costed 137.50.It is a joke.I hope, I saved someone out there. Then they just took another 29.50 out of my account.I think it is for puppy pads.I was told the pads would be 9.99 a month. So now, I have to try and get that cancelled in the morning. To me it such a waste of money.I have learned never give out your credit card infromation.Just keep buying puppy pads if you have a little dog.I have a plastic shower curtain I use under my puppy pads.I have to wash it out but it safes my carpet. My two little dogs go to it.Just be carefull and please do not waste your money. Now days money is hard to get a hold of.I hope this helps anyone wanting infromation about the potty patch. Thanks a lot Angela
I need to also let everyone know it took me 3months to even get the potty patch.Waiting that long and then being disapointed on top of it.Please do not buy!
Watch out for auto shipping Auto shipping is a scam in and of it’s self I have a friend that works in the industry and he tells me the following
1. Whether it is internet or a phone sale the auto ship is explained however it is never clear. They are trained to gloss over auto ships and just meet the FCC guidelines that keep them out of court.
2. This is true only for the 800 number call operators are standing by calls STAY AWAY FROM THE FREE OFFERS AT THE END OF THE CALL. They are trained to try and lull you in by using a very monotone voice and at the end of the statement saying “OK” real brightly. People they are reading you a CONTRACT and it IS binding The best way to not mess with these is as soon as they start hang up!!
Well I know a lady who bought the potty patch for her chaweenie and she loves it. Its nice so when she goes to work she doesnt have to worry about the puppy. I am thinking of buying one but not from online as i can see thats not a good thing but from the as seen on tv store in my mall. It is the same price but no shipping. I am glad i didnt get it online.
This is a follow up to my post of March 21. I received the new dog potty from Amazon that I mentioned in that posting. It’s called UGODOG Indoor Dog Potty. As I said, I don’t use dog potties inside–I live on the second floor of a condo and have a balcony with a patio door, and a removable sliding glass doggie door installed for Danny my Dachshund to go out when he wants. This is nice because he doesn’t have to hold it until I get home.
Anyway, I really like the Ugodog. It doesn’t have the artificial grass on top like the Potty Patch, but two small removable grates on top that are easy to clean off with a paper towel. Under the grid (which is comfortable for the dog I might add), I put papers and then a waterproof potty pad under that, same as with the Potty Patch. At some point I want to try a kitty litter liner with green pellets instead and see how that works. But for now, the newspaper words fine, and, unlike the Potty Patch (or any of the artificial grass dog potties), there was no odor. Everything is plastic and wipes off. The artificial grass dog potties like Potty Patch state that the urine goes right through the grass, but what they don’t tell you is that a lot of the urine clings to the grass and really smells after awhile. You find out just how much urine is there when you wash it off. Despite all my attempts to clean it, the urine smell never went away.
I put the Ugodog in the same place as I had the Potty Patch and at first Danny just looked at it, like what’s that? Where’s the stuff on top that you think I think is supposed to be grass. But I used positive re-enforcement, lots of good boys, go ahead and try it and eventually he did after I put him on it a few times. Now he goes there by himself. The urine goes right through the grates and the solids stay on top, which I remove immediately. Like I said, really easy to clean–wipe the top off with a paper towel and cleaning solvent or use sterile wipes, replace the paper and that’s it. The plastic tray was easy to wipe down too.
I was VERY happy to wrap up the Potty Patch and dump it in the garbage!
I also braught the UGO DOG system, I t was a complete waste of money, my little puppy wouldn’t go on the grate and it was very un-comfortable not to mention no grass. I eventually did some research and got a another one called rascal dog litter box and i have so satisfied with it, it is so simple and easy to manage and clean and also their customer service is second to none. Every time I needed help with training I called the owner direct and she answers her calls straight away and helped me out with my questions. It took me a couple of weeks to train but I swear by it and in the end you got to look are you getting your money’s worth and the most importand thing is after service. and they can bought on http://www.rascaldoglitterbox.com. I hope this helps someone.
Surprised to hear about you saying the Ugo Dog system is uncomfortable — the one I have is very comfortable for my dog. But all dogs have to be trained to use them and I’m sure they have their preferences. My Danny knows when I say Go Pee what that means, and I think it helps if your dog understands these types of commands. I’m happy with Ugo though and do recommend it because the dog is not standing in their urine–some of it does stick to that artificial grass, as I mentioned.
I purchased the potty patch it took two months to arrive. I called the company several times and all the customer service agents were rude. I finally recieved it and my dog wont use it. He urinates next to it. lol
The item cannot be returned but you are not told that till it is shipped to you. Cool concept and may work for some, but it didnt for me
After reading the comments I decided against this and went witht he guys idea of sod. I put in my house by the window where it can grow and one outside on my porch since I live in an apt. my dog uses the outside one but hasn’t caught on with the inside one. Im gonna try putting it where she pees now. The hard part is I never see her pee. I can smell it on the carpet but never have see her. she is slick.
I bought the Potty Patch in the As Seen On TV Store in a mall. It cost more than I expected, but I was desperate. My dogs don’t have any idea what it is for. The grass part slides around, if they did get on it, it might scare them. I guess I could try train them to use it.
I bought this, and haven’t felt good about it since. It is smaller than I thought it would be, and I think it scares them. The postage was ridiculous and it took forever to receive it. I actually thought they lost my order (which I wish they did). But mostly they have disreputable companies using their site too. It signs you up for “My Advisor” and “Buyers Edge” who then help themselves to $1.00 each out of your checking account….so they sell you info. I have called those companies twice and have not gotten my money back. It may only be 2.00 they took but like I told them it is MY 2.00 not theirs….they are thieves!!! BEWARE!

I bought the “potty patch” because I moved into an apartment so she no longer had freedom of a doggie door to go outside. She is also an old dog. Had to do some training to get her to use the potty patch. So it does work, but has some design issues. The biggest is the shallowness of the tray (about .25 to .5 inches deep with fake grass & grill removed. This makes it quit a balancing act to empty. Impossible to walk with and not make a mess. Maybe a bucket to pour into, but I decided to just use training pads in tray to make disposal easier. Also is not “odor” free after a while. Would not have bought this if I could change the past. Cheaper options – training pads with floor protector (walmart.com) or tractor supply had a 2ft by 2ft tray about 1.5″ inch deep for putting under hutches or coops that would make a better bathroom tray, but not be too high for a small dog to get into.
I ordered a pet park which is exactly the same as a potty patch from Pet Zoom and received a confirmation email. I wanted to reach them as the s&h was very high. It has now been 6 days and even though I haved reached the customer service dept. they have no record of my purchase. They advised me to contact my credt card company and IF I have been charged to disput the charges and have them call the company. Customer service said this has happened to several people.
Customer always have the right to dispute a charge when they have not received the item.
I wish I would of known all this before I purchased the potty patch at Walgreens Now I am out the money and my dog probly wont even use it.
I ordered the potty patch and didn’t recieve it for three weeks, I check the site they give you for customers and my order said it was still pending. I went into the potty patch website and found their number to call. I don’t remember what it was but they answered and I explained that I am still waiting. They said They are still waiting on approval from the bank. So I gave them a different card and that one the bank authorized and I got my potty patch in about a 1week and 1/2
I got it because my dog get fleas attack after it rains and to get him away from being attacted by ticks.
So it rained here in chicago and My dog went straight to the patch and used it. and it was good , no pea on the floor and all in the tray. I poured it out into the stool.
But it rained again and this time he went to the potty patch and the pea was all over the floor on the side of the potty patch.
So I think it might be hard to get him to use it right all the time. It may not happen.
This sounded like a good idea but I think now maybe it is not worth the money paid for it. I think I should be cheaper.
I also ordered a dog bed from shiville.com. I am very please with it ,my dog loves it. They have some adorable pet beds and dog houses
I suggest that if anyone is wanting to try this product then buy at PetSmart. They have a money back guarantee for anything and everything in that store! Including food and treats. I just bought my potty patch today because I am moving to downtown San Diego and I worry about running into homeless people while I am walking my dog. I will update ya’ll when I know if this product works or not.
This would never work for my male chihuahuas. They only want to lift their leg and pee on something. They go in and out of the kitchen and if the door doesn’t magically open, they pee on the kitchen table leg. I put a zip lock bag on the table leg and tightened the top with a piece of tape and clothes pinned an old bath towel around the leg. Now they can go on the leg and I just replace the towel as needed. The table is saved and there’s no clean up.
Potty Patch is available at Petco – so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of ordering online and not receiving it. Is this product really that bad if you rinse it off everyday? My dog is stuck inside for 11 hours a day while i’m at work and I want him to have a place to relieve himself other than newspapers. I hate that he has to be stuck inside for such a long period, but that’s how it is when you work full time. I see the reviews saying it stinks, but if I wash it everyday, really?
Thanks!
I, too, have ordered the potty patch. I received a confirmation email that said it had been shipped on 5/31. When I check the customer status, however, it states it’s “in process”. I have yet to see the product on my doorstep. My order number is 36884201022125002. The payment has been processed, but I have nothing to show for it! I think this is a scam.
My mother-in-law ordered one and loves it! Her 2 yr old weiner dog will have NOTHING to do with it, but her 8 week old poodle used it the very day she got the dog! She is hoping the older dog will see the younger dog using it & get the idea.
don’t order this it’s a ripoff. I got charged for 2 potty patched for 185.55 when I only ordered one for 39.95
If you want this product, I would suggest going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond or PetSmart. If you have an As Seen on TV Store in your area, they have them there also!
I bought the Potty Patch and after waiting forever for it ot come (about 6 weeks) I was so disappinted when it arrived! IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!! The grass slides all over the place. My dog did finally use it after I worked on training him. The problem: There are no sides on the box, so Skiper peed right onto the wall.
This is not a solution! I was tired of spenidng so much money on pads and I wanted a litter box trained dog. I work long hours ……………need I say more.
Someone had told me about the Rascal Dog Litter Box. and that they were very satisfied with the product. I ordered it and it was shippped the same day.
WOW!!! What a difference in the quality of the grass and the box itself! I paid a little more for it (not much, around $25.00), but it is well made and I am VERY SATISFIED! Skiper is using the box great and the box has sides.
Good Luck!
i got an eigh week old tea cup chihuahua and the same day that i got him i went and bought the potty patch and some spray from walmart. the spary is called “out house training aid for puppies” and when i got home i set it up and sprayed that stuff on it and my new puppy has not use the bathroom any where else but on the potty patch. it is so nice not to have to clean up after a puppy, and to clean it all i do is turn the shower on hot and let it sit in the shower under the hot water for about 30 minutes. i love the potty patch
and as far as the grass sliding off, i took four squares of velcrow and put velcrow on the four corners. so now when every my puppy runs on it, the grass does not slide off. It is still very easy to take off becuase all i do is un velcrow it from the green plastic that it sits on.
WHY DON’T YOU ALL JUST GO TO PETSMART AND BUY THIS PRODUCT OFF THE SHELF. IT SELLS FOR 39.95 AND THEY SELL THEM AT A VARIETY OF DRUG STORES (WALGREENS, CVS) ON THE “AS SEEN ON TV” ISLE. THE CONTACT # ARE ON THE BOX. I’D GIVE YOU THEM BUT I HAVE LONG SINCE THROWN THE BOX AWAY.
I did purchase this product at Walgreens……….it is a piece of junk. I came home, unpacked it and put it right back together again and back to the store for a credit. The grass is really cheap and the worse part is that it shifts all over the place. The grass does not sit securely on the base. I did not give my dog a chance to try it as I was worried he would hurt himself on it. I don’t know why the AKC would back a product like this as I think it is very unsafe. Hundreds of sharp painty plastic needles are suppose to hold the grass in place….Very poorly designed! Also, I don’t know what I was thinking……..my male would pee right off of the edge of this just like he does with the pads. As most items are in the SEEN ON TV rows, it was worthless and junky.
I am so thankful that I came across this website as I will be adopting a puppy in the near future, however I live in a second story apartment, and I get a little bit of anxiety thinking about how I am going to be able to potty train a puppy the absolute correct way living upstairs. I have a huge balcony so I was considering getting the potty patch, but after reading all of the feedback I am very glad I haven’t bought anything yet. So, I have been researching the alternative patches that people have provided us with and with that said I want to know which product is better- the pup-head, the porch potty, or the rascal dog litter box? I ultimately want my puppy to know to only pee outside on grass, and unfortunately I like the idea of the porch potty but I don’t have a hose to connect to it, and the price seems rather high because of the self cleaning features it offers. Any advice on which one I should end up buying for my lil guy??
I agree with Katrina. The grass slids right off; the plastic spokes do not work. And this is with a Shitz Shu. Total waste of $50. Puppy never used it had it for a month; not once
I saw this potty patch at Pet Smart today. Maybe you can go buy one, so you will not be scamed.
Potty Patch may be cheaper than all the other Potty’s but the company who makes them are not in the pet business and could care less about the risks they are taking with our pets. Potty Patch has high levels of lead in thier grass. Recent testing was done on 2 of Potty Patches purchased at Walgreens and the other at Petco. The potty purchased at Petco had 1900 ppm lead content and the Potty Patch purchased at Walgreens had a reading of 4500 ppm lead levels. The maxium level of lead allowed is 300ppm.
Please be careful and think twice before you purchase the Potty Patch because you could be risking the life and health of your pet with those high levels of lead content.
hi,
i love my spotty indoor training potty. all my puppies go right to it. and i love it.
it is a very good to have. and they look so sweet on it.
IT IS SUPER.
I bought mine at petsmart for the same price. I have a teacup pom he is ten weeks old. He goes on it every time I love it. I wash it with the water hose twice a week it doesn’t smell at all. The best thing ever. I think s small dog does really well
I bought my Potty Patch about a month ago for my long haired Chihuahua and I am very satisfied with it. I was excited when my dog used it about 15 minutes after I set it up without any kind of prompting and has continued to use it every since. Previously I had been using the training pads but found that the urine always seemed to find it’s way onto the floor. I didn’t always notice it had happened until it had been sitting for a while. I had to find a way to save my floors and the Potty Patch has been a great solution. There is little to no smell as long as you empty it daily. I found that the training pads were very smelly and messy to clean up.
Dog Lady,
Given that you now have 309 comments from readers who feel they’ve been ripped off by this company, I think it’d be prudent for you to update your original article with a warning in the first line advising readers not to trust the company, and you might want to stop linking to their website… anyone who doesn’t read the comments might just click though and buy it, and be burned like everyone else.
Andrew – Thanks for the suggestion. I left the link in, but put the warning in red at the top of the post. Good idea!
I just got a potty patch, it says as seen on TV and for small dogs under 15 pounds, I now know thanks to reading these reviews that i will put it in a pillow case to wash and that i need something to hold the grass to the base, thankfully i didn’t have to go through the scam thing. i am getting a Shitz Tzu and Chihuahua mix in a few weeks, it will be a male, but because it is only a pup i don’t think i will have to worry about it lifting its leg and peeing off the grass, is there anything else i should worry about??thanks……..
I just bought one and it is being shipped. My rescue dog was badly neglected and beaten before we got her and now she cannot be house broken. She goes outside most of the time, but now that it is raining, she only makes it to the door. Disciplining her doesn’t work because when I scold her she still thinks I am going to hurt her because my voice is angry. HOPE THIS WORKS. Oh and by the way, just use vinegar to get out the smell from the puppy patch. Dogs urine is basic and vinegar is acidic. THe VINEGAR will NUETRALIZE the odor.
I should have listened to my sister who lives in New York. She purchased The Potty Patch and told me it was a piece of junk, That the top part of the unit slid all over the floor and her dog was afraid of it.
I was desperate to find a way to train my dog as I was tired of coming home to a mess in the kitchen EVERY DAY!!!
So, I bought this box. I did train my dog to use it and I secured the grass to the base with duct tape which answered the skidding problem. Cleaning it! Forget it! There is no basin to contain the urine and it tips all over the place! I had a mess all over my floor. Very poor design.
The Potty Patch is just a piece of grass over a flat base. My male still was peeing over the edge of it. A complete waste of my money.
Since I had gone through the time and energy of training Scooter to use the Potty Patch I wanted to find another system. I did some searching on line and found the Rascal Dog Potty System and ordered that. I did pay more, but it was a quality product! It has a deep basin and is so easy to clean.
So, good luck to everyone….don’t waste your money on the PottyPatch. Also, I would have thought that the AKC who endorses the Potty Patch would have higher standards……Kat and Scooter.
So I read a little over half the comments and couldnt be asked to go on any further, so sorry if this comment has already been made. If there are so many problems with the company’s website go to pet smart. Their online store sells it, and I’m assuming at least some locations sell it.
I ordered the larger version of this product. The website never gave me the price or an option to submit my order..they just charged my card for over $60 more than the small item. I called immediately and was told that I ws showing in their system yet, but they gave me a website that they told me I could cancel from as soon as it was. I waited until 2 AM and my order fnally showed up. There was no option to cancel, but there was an email address which I sent the cancellation to. I got no response, so called this morning and was told that it was shipped already even though on their status page it is showing as being processed. They have already charged my card and have told me that I have to wait, return the unopened product and in “several” weeks would be credited.
I don’t recommend ordering this product!
I purchased 2 Pup.Head by PupGear on eBay for my miniature dachshund and it is a lifesaver! I live in Alberta,Canada where the winters are COLD! I put pee pads in the bottom tray to absorb the urine ( trying to carry a tray full of urine and then pouring it ? YUCK!). I also turned the grates upside down which works better. My pup is 4 mths old and used it right away without any ecouragement. Truffles has used it consistently ever since. I only wish I had found this product 4 dogs ago LOL. I recommend this product to anyone!
Here’s a recipe for a cleaning sloution for cleaning your dog’s Potty Patch. It’s cheap and easy to make BUT ( i cannot stress this point enough!) you must either use it all or dispose any remaining solution as it can explode if stored. It is the same solution for de-skunking your dog. If it can get out skunk oil, it can get out dog urine! It’s 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tsp Dawn dish soap. It works great on both your potty patch and your dog!
I love the reusable puppy pads better! I know where you can get a lot of them for a good price. My dogs love there reusable pads and so do I. Now I have papillons, they don’t tear them up or mess around with them.
Hi my name is marti in a couple for weeks i am going to pick up my 8 week old chow chow puppy and i would like to get something like the potty-patch because i work ten hours a day would this be a good ideal for her because she will also go for walks every day will she use something like this
I received the Potty Patch earlier in December for my birthday………I was so disappointed in it. The top unit slides all over the place and my dog was afraid due to how unstable the whole thing was……….SHE WOULD PEE NEXT TO IT, BUT NOT ON IT!!! I think because it was sliding all over the place.
Also, I still had to buy the pads to put under the grass……….so this DID NOT SOLVE MY PROBLEM!! Now I still had to buy pads and wash the grass!!!!
My sister gave me a Rascal Dog Litter Box for Christmas. It has sides, no pads are needed and the grass is machine washable. I LOVE THE DESIGN of the box and so does COCO my little YORKIE!!! The box has sides, which only makes sense to keep the urine in the box and for emptying it……
I would suggest this company’s product….I have been very satisfied. I liked the box so much that I ordered a second one for our upstairs bedroom. I talked with the owner of the company and she was so nice and helpful. Great Customer Service!!! Good Luck! NAncy and Coco
I love the Potty Patch! I bought mine at PetSmart. I have two chihuahuas and live where its snows. When it is cold out I just can’t put my girls outside. I also work all day so I had to come up with something that was better than potty pads. I use the patches (I bought two so that they would feel like they have more room and are not uncomfortable) with the pads draped along the sides because one of my girls tends to pee along the edge. However they DO use them and the smell in my house is WAAAAY better than it used to be. Picking up the poop and flushing it as soon as possible and rinsing the pads a couple of times a week does the trick.
My wife ordered one of these. After three weeks we were notified that the item was not deliverable to our po box. As a result, we are being refuned our money less 15% for restock fees. This is absolutly a fraudulent scam, Our po box is for a business, it is very active and we visit it 6 days a week. In the 21 years that we have had this po box, this is the first and only time we have had this happen. She ordered through Amazon, we posted a complaint, but it sounds like this has been going on for quite a while and this situation just sounds like another way for them to scam people. My advise, stay away.
I just bought this from PetSmart for my 9 month old Pekingese who is very stubborn and hard to housebreak. We just moved to a house with a poor excuse for a backyard. I put the patch on the porch so it doesn’t smell inside and we have a doggy door for her to get to the porch. As of now she has no interest in the patch so any ideas on how to get her to use it? I’m thinking of getting a piece of sod and then once she goes on that, remove the sod and just sprinkle some grass on the pad. I have high hopes in this product. I also am working on getting her to use the doggy door. Any tips on how to get her to use either the door or the pad?!
I bought a potty patch for my dog and it came today. I know it’s early, but i’m already predicting problems. My dog seems timid around it and won’t set foot on it. I’m worried that she might not want to have anything to do with the potty patch. Does anyone have tips on how to get a timid dog to use the potty patch?
My 5 month old lh chi is 100% trained to use her potty patch (and has been since we had her for 2 weeks at 3 months old). I can go to work for multiple hours and leave her in the entire apartment without fear of accidents.
I absolutely love this product. I don’t have the option of coming home every few hours to let out my pup, so having the patch is amazing. I would recommend his product to anyone with a small doggy:) Yes it took a few weeks of constant supervision and running her to the patch anytime she was about to or already was in the process of eliminating but after the hard work she was fully trained.
Train. Train. Train.
I would not recommend this product. Is a poor design. The grass slides all over the place and is just a cheap piece of grass. I did train my male to a command, but he refuses to step on the grass due to how unstable the whole set up. So, he pees next to it and it still hits the wall. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN. It needs to have sides and be of a better design. I was hoping this would work. Back to pee pads.
This item is available at petsmart and target. So stop ordering online. I am going to buy one today. I will repost if it works.
You can also purchase the potty patch at Bed, Bath & Beyond. that way you can use their 20% off coupon.
I have an older large dog with medical problems that causes him to have incontinence problems when left longer than 2 hours so this would be wonderful. But has anyone used the large dog one? I’m worried that the middle try will give when he steps on it and make him scared since he’s a three legged guy.
Well we did make the mistake of ordering this piece of garbage – first they sent the wrong size – we ordered a small got a small base with a large fake grass cover – we called to return the whole order – sure send it back was the response – yea send it back at your own expense. I ask to speak to a supervisor – well they don’t have phone extensions – WTF. I can understand the customer being responsible for return shipping if they simply decided to return the product, but in this case the wrong product and at that a mismatched product was shipped. If you make the mistake of ordering this crap – dispute the charge on your card – ASAP. It’s a company that specializes in FRAUDULENT charges not pet products ……. IMHO
This product has so many bad comments. But I found so many good opinions about PetZoom Pet Park Indoor Pet Potty

Dont understand why all these people ordered the potty patch ,when all you had to do was go to your local pet shop, even Wal-mart has them.If I am in a hurry to get my dog transitioned from outside to inside, I dont have time for the mailman, or these crazy companies.
I am moving from a house to an apartment, so my dogs wont have the luxury of going outside as often, so before I move I am beginning to get them used to the potty patch, as so they can somewhat understand that they are to use it. But I will still continue to give them their evening walks, after I get off work. Good luck to all who has been successful with it.
i think the product is great.
Being that I am on the third floor of an apartment complex I bought the Potty Patch from Petsmart. It’s a good thing too- my puppy is only 2 months old and she isnt allowed on the ground outside yet until she is done with all of her shots (mainly Parvovirus). She loooves her potty path. I had her potty trained in less than 2 weeks. Only draw back is the smell… I have I find a way to keep it smelling better. We have a puddle pad next to it just in case of an accident but he has done very well!

Hello, just want to tell you that your blog content is interesting, but you must improve site’s graphics

I have noticed that sensible real estate agents all over the place are getting set to FSBO Promotion. They are acknowledging that it’s more than simply placing a sign in the front property. It’s really about building relationships with these retailers who sooner or later will become consumers. So, after you give your time and energy to aiding these sellers go it alone – the “Law of Reciprocity” kicks in. Great blog post.
The tender passion is much overrated by the poets. They have their living to earn, poor fellows.
I bought the Potty Patch at PetCo for my 3 year old teacup Yorkie – he shredded the grass mat within a 24 hour period – total waste of $40….
I have been examinating out some of your stories and it’s pretty nice stuff. I will definitely bookmark your blog.
No matter how much I cleaned that stinky fake grass I could never get rid of the odor. Now I order real grass from http://www.freshpatch.com and it has made everything much easier. I get a new one delivered every two weeks and throw the old one away.
I was just looking for this Dog’s indoor article. It’s so amusing.
Thanks

This site was… how do I say it? Relevant!! Finally I have found something that helped me. Kudos!
I hardly drop responses, however i did some searching and wound up here A dog’s indoor “potty patch” : Doggies.com Dog Blog. And I actually do have some questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be just me or does it appear like a few of these responses come across like they are written by brain dead people?
And, if you are writing on additional online social sites, I’d like to follow anything fresh you have to post. Would you list of every one of all your communal pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
