A Dog’s Indoor Potty Patch: A Question

We’ve gotten a ton of feedback to previous posts about the potty patch, and as you know if you’ve been following along, the company said they would begin shipping product very soon. Has anyone actually gotten one? I’m curious as to if they are making good on their promise, and as to whether or not the product works. Please comment below if you have one! Thanks.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

  1. The Potty Patch is a version of a similar item that was called Patio Potty or something like that….. Had one of those – didn’t really find it useful. However, dogs can be taught to use a large litter box – takes a bit of persuading but they do learn. I have trained a Dobie and two Basenji dogs to use a big litter box – BIG is the operative word. I built it out of two by fours for the sides and a big waterproof tarp – used regular litter….Worked really well for a long time. Should be easy to build something for a little dog.

  2. Hey everyone, I tried this for my Basset as we are waiting for our home with a big fenced yard to be built and are currently staying with Grandma in her condo. Instead of going down 10 floors for a quick 5am pee I decided to try this. No go! she realizes that a walk is her only option right now so that’s the only place she’ll go.
Anyways, I purchased mine at Wal-Mart and kept the reciept so i returned it (unused) with no issue. Good option for anyone wanting to try it worry free.

  3. My husband and I just received the Potty Patch. I am very reluctant to actually use it given the comments on this website. I doubt that my husband will get his money back if we want to return it. For those of you using the training pads, a training pad holder can be purchased to keep the pads in place. I purchased one at Wal-Mart and it works well to keep our puppy from chewing on it. Unfortunately, we have not been real successful to get our puppy to use it. I will keep trying because the pads sound like a much better option than the Potty Patch.

  4. I HAVE PLENTY TO SAY – I HAVE CANCELLED THIS POTTY PATCH A DOZEN TIMES AND YOU STILL DEDUCT MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT. THE ORDERS HAVE STOPPED BUT THE DEDUCTIONS FROM MY ACCOUNT ARE EVERY FEW DAYS TO ADD UP TO A LOT OF MONEY – YOU PEOPLE ARE THEIVES AND THINK YOU HAVE THE INTERNET BEHIND YOUR DECEPTION – I AM TURNING ALL OF THIS IN TO THE STATES ATTORNEY AND FILING CHARGES AGAINST THE POTTY PATCH – OTHER PEOPLE BEWARE DONT FALL INTO THE SAME DECEPTIVE TRAP – THEY WILL ROB YOU!!!!!!!!!

  5. The Potty Patch worked very well right away for us.

I have two 2 1/2 month old shih apso puppies – a male and a female. I got them about a week ago. They were trained to go outside. I am living in a 7th floor apartment so I tried to teach them to use a puppy pad. The male had no problems at all with that, but the female absolutely refused to go on the pad. She would go anywhere in their playpen but on the pad. They would also rip the pad and move it around… Disgusting!

I bought (at a store) and installed the Potty Patch yesterday night. I used a spray bought at the pet store for attracting the dogs (it is not a pheromone; it smells like ammonia, which apparently reminds the dogs of urine). The male used the Potty Patch right away – alone by himself during the night and then today. The female needed to be shown what it was for, but she got it quite fast and she has started using it by herself (on the very first day!).

Last night, the female (I think) tried to get the grass out of the bottom tray, but since it is heavy, she was not really successful. Also, since my dogs have understood what it was for, they apparently stopped pulling on it.

There is no bad smell for the moment. I put a puppy pad in the bottom tray and changed it after 24 hours. I do not know how often I will have to clean the whole thing, but after 24 hours, it’s still OK (with 2 dogs using it!).

My dogs (weighing 5 and 7 lbs) do not have problems standing on the grass. They do not skid on it.

  6. Yes I also purchased a potty patch from petco was the biggest rip off ever I have a 3 month puppy. We live in a 3 story condo he will not use the product at all he is beter off with the potty pads but is still not always hitting the right spots. I say treat the dog as a child take him out a couple of hours after eating or drinking and no water after 10 pm like a kid that wets the bed and crating the dog after the accident works as well and not trying to spnak them.

  7. The Potty Patch – where do I begin. This has to be the WORST product I’ve ever purchased. The pans are not deep enough and are difficult to keep clean. Definitely NOT worth the money. Go back to training and using puppy pads, which we have switched back to for training purposes and for when we’re away for longer periods of time. If you have a Sam’s card, you can purchase Underpads, which are bigger and more absorbant than puppy pads. Much better idea. The Potty Patch? NO WAY – STAY AWAY – NOT WORTH THE MONEY – TERRIBLE DESIGN.

  8. I want to purchase the pheromone spray that is suppose your attract dog to use the potty patch. When I go to http://www.pottypatch.com, it doe’s not show any accessories for the potty patch. It seems to only be to order the potty patch.
It doesn’t show a “contact us” on the web site.
Does anyone know where to order the pheromone spray?

  9. I bought the large Potty Patch for my 4 year old Dachshund because he was trained to use a doggie door but we moved to a 3rd floor apartment. I ordered mine online from Petsmart and it arrived within a few days. The first time he stepped onto the Potty Patch it slid out from under him and scared him. There isn’t anything that keeps the patch attached to the tray and it slides very easily. He won’t even attempt to use it anymore. He “goes” all around the border but won’t get back on the patch. I think its a good concept but could definitely use some improvement.

  10. Well Here’s my Piece of Mind I’m NOT HAPPY I ordered my potty Patch in the Beginning of January and Still no Potty Patch! I have been told three times by customer service the Small ones are on back order and they just sent out 50,000 of the Small ones and mine wasn’t in that group “SORRY expect another 3-4 weeks delay” I found the email address for the owner and sent him a nice note but if customer service is a reflection of him I am quite sure I wont get too far.

If Petco and other places have them I think I am just going to cancel my order and get one there. This is crazy,,, So if anyone is looking for a large one the Customer service person at POTTYPATCH.com told me they have a ton of those if I would like to upgrade and Pay the $45.00 Difference.. Yeah Right

  11. I purchased this product for my Crested Cinese Hairless, and she won’t have anything to do with it. I went to the site looking for this spray that is suppose to attract them to it and for no where on this site can you find the product they mentioned. I wish I would have known about this site before I purchased mine, I wouldn’t have wasted my money!

  12. I bought my pottypatch on January 21, 2010 and paid $88.74 for the pottypatch plus extra pads. I have yet to receive this product, and I have tried to reach the company at the customer service email address that they supply you with. Well it’s now been over 48 hours and the email has not been opened. I guess I’m going to have to get a lawyer to get my money back. This is nothing but a scheme to get people’s money. Do not order if you’re thinking about it!!!!

  13. I ordered the Potty Patch on January 17,2010. Today is 2-28, and I still haven’t received it. I checked the status on 2-6 and 2/14 – “In process”, checked today and they claim it was shipped on 2-26 via FedEx. They gave a tracking number, which I checked – this said “expected delivery date 3-3-10”. Since when does it take FedEx a week to deliver a 8.8 lb package for which I paid $12.95 shipping/handling charge? I wish I had checked this website before ordering this product, it doesn’t sound like it’s worth it at all. Will let you all know – if I even get it!

  14. I ORDERED AND PAID FOR THE POTTY PATCH. THEY MADE SURE THEY GOT THIER MONEY. I DID NOT GOT THE PRODUCT. THEY DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY CORRESPONDENCE. I HAVE NEVER, & I EMPHASIZE NEVER, GOT AN ANSWER ON THE PHONE NUMBER THEY PROVIDED IN THE CONFIRMATIOM EMAIL WHERE THEY “””””TOOK”””” MY MONEY””””. EVERY TIME, AND AGAIN I EMPHASIZE, EVERY TIME, I HAVE GONE TO THE WEB ADDRESS THEY PROVIDED IN THE CONFIRMATIOMATION EMAIL AND CLICK ON THE “CONTACT US” LINK, THIS IS A COPIED AND PASTED RESPONSE: CustomerStatus.com
We are currently upgrading our systems to serve you better… please try again later
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY FOLKS.

  15. I recently bought a potty patch at PETCO a small one for $49 My puppy is just ripping it apart….Got some pheromone spray at another pet shop….not working. I put a puppy pad underneath where the urine goes and she ripped that up too….Not sure if I like this product…will keep trying

  16. My e-mail confirmation came from “[email protected]”. It included a link to a website to check the status (WWW.CUSTOMERSTATUS.COM) and my order number. Check your junk mail see if it got sent there…

  17. To the above posters. Ours took about a month but it did get here. I got a confirmation e-mail giving info on how to track my order. It was in the “Shipping” stage for quite a while but it did eventually arrive (I bought one at PetCo the day after I ordered online). We still do love it, it’s a pain to clean, especially since we don’t have access to a hose, so we have to use the bathtub but that’s what bleach and rubber gloves are for right? Hope everybody’s pup’s get to using it as ours did! Good luck!

  18. i also ordered in jan. at have not recieved it yet were do i go to check the status of my order. my dog does not want to go pee in the snow . somebody please help

  19. I am back again to recommend everyone not to buy the potty patch, just think about it, where are you going to clean it in the winter time? And even though I clean mine every day it still smells worse, and worse!!!!!! I see you can buy extra grass pads for it and they are expensive also. Mine has ended up in the trash, just like my money for it did! The other thing that happened with mine is the grass fell out of it and was a mess to keep cleaned up!

  20. The potty patch I purchased is now being used as a cat bed. Even the vet says she has not heard of any proof this thing works. And as far as the pheremone they talk about getting, after some research, I have learned that this pheremone is a calming pheremone and does not attract. I feel this company has taken LOTS of money for a product that is bogus.

  21. I ordered Potty Patch on Jan 4th and have not received it yet. I am trying to go online to check my order and the site no longer offers me that ability. I did check it one week ago, and there was no info listed as yet.

  22. i am ordered the potty pach i not recivied yet i am worry because they took
$328 dollars from mi visa card . only a call asking mi address it was differen
at the address i give to this machine even the price they advertice can some tell me about .

  23. I received my potty patch but am having a problem getting my dog to se it. It scares her as it slips when I tried to put her on it and the noise made her scurry away from it. She wants nothing to do with it. It seemed like a good thing but isn’t what I really expected. A waste of money and causes you frustration.

  24. I order the potty patch in November and got it after Christmas. I can not even get my boston terrier to look at it. I have tried everything. I upgraded to the larger size so she would have plenty of room and still no go. I fell as though I through over 70.00 in the trash. I wouldn’t recommed it.

  25. We considered the Potty Patch, but I will not deal with a company that has a hostile web-site. Getting away from that web-site, without actually buying their damned product, required a computer shut-down, after being in a loop from one screen to another and back again.

Seeing many of the comments here, I’m happy to stay away.

  26. To Mary Lou- I have the post above you. It was two days standing in the freezing cold to get our dogs to use the PP. We made it their only option. So we got the PP on Saturday night and it took trips every 30 minutes or so out to the PP, but not to the grass where they usually went. Saturday night before we went to bed we took them down to where they usually did their business before the PP. We kenneled Zelda and started over in the morning. I had her tied to me with a leash all day so I could be sure she wasn’t wandering off somewhere to pee in the house. Loco peed in the snow and we put the yellow snow on the PP, that seemed to help him. We went through all day Sunday before Zelda peed. She went in the snow and again we transferred that snow onto the PP. She was a little more difficult. She won’t use it if we are out there with her and I think she still prefers the comfort of the carpet. But she has gotten to the point of whining at the door to the porch when she needs to poop and that is HUGE! She has never done that her whole life. So I think it just takes time and commitment. Every dog is different. I love the PP! Especially with the doggy flu going around I don’t really have to worry about that with the PP. In time I hope she will learn to commit to eh PP. When we have snow on the ground she seems more willing. Just attach your dog to you. Also exercise always got my dogs pooping. If we rough them up, play and run around with them they will usually stop in the middle of it to poop. If your pup plays chase that would probably be a good one. Just don’t let her out of your sight while she is hyper! Good luck! And by the way… I ordered my PP just after Thanksgiving and have not received it. We bought the one we have now at Petco for the same price (- shipping). The deadline for it to be delivered is tomorrow so we will see if it gets delivered. We plan to just put them side by side so they have more space to sniff because even for two small dogs it is a little small.

  27. I ordered my potty patch on 11/3 and just recieved it on 12/12. My dog is 1.5 yrs old and a rescue. I am not sure how I can get her to use it as she won’t go outside in the rain. We are having training issues about potty. Any suggestions? We walk every morning go around house outside and then walk at night. She wets and then we get home and she sneaks in the kitchen and defacates there. I am not giving up as I am sure I am doing something wrong.

  28. My husband and I have 2 young dogs a male Long Haired Chihuahua (Loco) and a female Pekingese (Zelda). Since Puppy hood we potty trained for outside only. No potty pads. Loco is 100% faithfully trained, but Zelda is close to two years old and still has accidents on the carpet. Well We wive in Colorado and winters here can be a bit rough for the little dogs and we just moved to the city where there is only very small patches of grass to do their business on. Our new apartment has a balcony so we bought the potty patch (PP) today. It’s a very cold day today and will be for a while. The dogs seem personally offended by the idea of even walking on it much less using it for it’s purpose. We have spray that is supposed to attract them to use it (not the potty patch brand), we put the snow that Loco decided to pee on (instead of using the PP) on the PP. No dice. We usually take them out every 2-4 hours or whenever they get winey, weird, or excitable. But it has been over 8 hours since Zelda went outside with trips every 30-60 minutes to the PP with lots of encouragement. Does anybody have any advice for them to get used to it? Zelda is quite particular about where she goes. I feel like I just threw away $80. Thank you! And by the way. We do take them on frequent longish walks when the temps aren’t below freezing.

  29. I bought two potty patches hoping that I could train my mini dachshund puppy to use them. She won’t go near them; however, she does use the wee wee pads but sometimes misses the mark and goes on my carpeting. I have used the pheromone spray on both the wee wee pads and potty patches so she doesn’t pee on my carpeting and it doesn’t seem to help.

  30. I ordered the potty patch weeks ago and have not received it. My dog is 10 years old and I trained her on puppy pads as a puppy since I worked very long hours. I thought she would be easy to adjust to the potty patch.
By the way, she is also trained for outside.

  31. It took our Bichon a few weeks to get used to it…at first he did no 2 on it, then a few days later no 1…he seemed to look sheepish when he used it, as though he was “in trouble”, but I encouraged him,and now it works on our apt balcony when we cant get out.Heuses it once or twice daily when we are out,and he can’t wait. It DOES smell pretty bad from urine, and although I am cleaing it daily as directed, it does smell…I cant imagine having it in the house…

  32. i too have purchased a potty patch, i have a small japanese chin dog who will freeze this winter if he goes outside and does use this potty patch but it is not big enough even for a 5 lb dog, what are they thinking of to show a lab. i believe using it, it also smells very bad even though i wash it every day. my doggie still goes on the carpet if i do not make him go on the potty patch. they need to make it a lot larger and wider then where would you keep it? it needs to be handy for them to find and use. i am not impressed with it at all, in fact i am going to email or call them about it, the smell again is horrible and it is to small if you can get them to use it.

  33. I have a 7 month old Sheltie/ Shepard mix & the potty patch is WONDERFUL. She can’t hold it for the full day while we are at work & would go right in front of the back door, trying to go out, we have a indoor cat also so can’t have a doggy door. She uses the patch during the day. Urine runs thru & solids stay ontop of the grass to be picked up. I am SOOOOOOOOOO GLAD we got this for her!!!!!!!!!.

  34. Violet, you can usually find the pheromone spray at health food type stores. I’ve used it for both dogs and cats and it works great. We also used it at a shelter I volunteered at and it really helped calm the animals, I don’t know how good it would do for attracting your pet to the potty place. Good luck.

  35. I bought two potty patch’s for my 4 year old rescue Chorkie but she has refused to use them. I have tried to find out how to order the pheromone spray, but can only get to the website to order more potty patch’s – don’t want to do that. Will throw these away if I do not get any help.

  36. To the person with the cat that refuses to use the litter box try changeing the brand of litter. Some cats are very finicky . Also have it check for a urinary infection. We had both problems in the past.

  37. As a kid ,Mom always trained our dogs to use the news paper. I’m thinking that the potty patch is the same thing. You have to train your dog to use it. Puppies would be the easiest . We tried to train out 2 Sitzues to use a litter box after they were housebroken. To hard.
    .

  38. My puppy is 5 months old,and she has been doing really well with wee-wee pads. Now she has this thing that she wants to tear them up all the time or play with them .What can I do?

  39. I considered purchasing the Potty Patch, but I would like to know how it does with feces, as the commercial only talks about “liquid” waste. Also, dog experts say that carpet feels just like grass under your dog’s feet, so how is the Potty Patch going to stop your dog from using your carpet? If anyone has one and knows the answers to my questions, please let me know. I am using washable potty pads right now and they work well, but occasionally, they still use the carpet.

  40. There use to be something called snuggle pups or something like that, I think you put warm water in them or they made a heart beat or something. They where for your puppies to lay with. Does anyone know anything about them and where I can find one?

  41. New subject. I kinda need help. My puppy has been trained on pee pads and she was really doing great. She has been spayed a couple weeks ago and now she is making messes instead of using the pad. Has anybody got an idea that would help in this matter. She is 6 mos. Siranian. Thanks in advance

  42. I have 2 dogs in an upstairs apartment. I had a piece of outdoor fake green carpet from the garden section at OSH. I put cat litter on it that absorbs and clumps. I mixed in small cedar chips to help with odor. Anyone know what else could be used for odor? I think this is a good idea- but you’re going to end up washing it out in the tub? when you get home every day (if you have no yard as I don’t). The grass is going to have to be cleaned as well. My dogs do both 1 & 2, not just pee. Any ideas? I have seen a product called “what odor” that is suppose to neutralize anything.

  43. Seems a great Idea, I have a small dog which we have to leave at home while both my work and I are working. We leave generic “Depend” pads on the floor for him to use. They work fine until our cat decides to use is and then bunches it up. So my thoughts are that the cat won’t like the grass, but what happens if the dog needs to defecate? They don’t seem to address this side of the situation.

  44. I do not have a dog, but I do have a cat that refuses to use a litter box and it is driving me nuts. Do you have anything that a cat can use to keep me from pulling my hair out?!
    Thanks,
    James

  45. I have seriously been considering buying a Potty Patch. I am getting my new puppy next week and I want to have a “clean” indoor potty option. I would love to hear from somebody who has a working system. Does the Potty Patch deliver? Especially if a puppy is started out on the system????

  46. I have received the Potty Patch. I see no proof that this thing works. It is suggested that if our dog doesn’t take to the Potty Patch that we purchase a pheromone spray at http://www.pottypatch.com.
Has anyone used this product? It would be a godsend if it does work.
