There was a neat (but sad) story in my local paper the other day. This elderly man had bought a Golden Retriever for his wife several years ago, but when the wife died in 2006, he and the dog became inseparable. Continue reading Loyal to the end, and then some

First Dog’s First Year: Pix of Bo Obama
Thanks to People Pets for providing us with these great pictures of the first dog’s first year in the White House. What a cutie!
They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, so I’ll let them do the talking today.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Bomb-Sniffing Dog, Chocolate
OK, besides the fact that I love his name, this dog served a life-saving purpose in Afghanistan recently. As part of a British K-9 unit, Chocolate, a Belgian Shepherd, is trained to sniff out bombs, but no one expected him to find a whole bomb-making factory.
Check out this video from NBC News for the whole story.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Meet Canton PD K-9 Risk
One of the other hats I wear (when I’m not wearing my “Blogger Extraordinaire” hat) is that of a rape crisis educator. I’ve been teaching some classes about law enforcement’s response to sexual assault at the Canton Police Department, and one of my students last week was a K-9 officer who works with Risk, pictured here.
Finding the best dog parks in the USA
Are you familiar with the website DogParkUSA? They have compiled a list of over 2,000 dog parks so you can find a place for your dog to play no matter where you may travel. Now, they have launched a new iPhone app so you can get the same info on your mobile device.
News from Happy Tails Books
I received an e-mail the other day from Kyla Duffy of Happy Tails Books, regarding some exciting things they have in the works. I love free stuff!
Taking Your Dog Out to Dinner
Most of the time, I can’t even afford to take my human children out to dinner, but check out this clip from NBC Nightly News about restaurants that are now encouraging you to bring your dog when you eat out! Apparently, it’s all the rage in urban and warm-weather cities.
Of course, my dogs are champion counter-surfers, so I can’t imagine we’d be asked back.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
A New Record for the Iditarod
For the first time in as long as anyone can remember, the 2010 Iditarod ended without any dogs dying during the event.
Update on Chance, the dog abused in Michigan
I posted yesterday about Chance, a dog found by the side of the road after being horribly abused. As it turns out, the man who rescued Chance from the side of the road is a contractor for AEP, where I work my day job. (Byron Tate works at AEP’s Cook Plant.) The rescue has been given lots of space on our in-house website, and today I found out that another AEP employee saw Chance when she took her own dog to the vet.

Dog Cruelty in Michigan
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: IF YOU CAN’T PROPERLY CARE FOR A DOG, DON’T GET ONE!!!
